He was asked how he liked RTO and talked about 6 days, 3 different offices, traveling to Charlotte, then Manhattan. How he enjoys wearing a collared shirt and has relaxing downtime while commuting.
Such a hollow statement. Must be nice to travel on the company's dime. No wonder execs want us back in the office, so they can corral us and look at their fiefdoms.
It's not that these execs are "old". A lot of us here in the trenches have been on this earth for longer than a lot of these nitwits.
The problem is that they're all out of touch with today's work environment, and they all live in the same echo chamber.
From my perspective (as an "old gal" who has seen a thing or two) what I see is just the latest generation of management id--ts making the same mistakes as the previous generation. I have grandkids who remind me of our execs, and who have about as much common sense.
Um, here’s something. If you like wearing collared shirts you can wear them anytime you want, not just when we rto. Don’t make the rest of us pay.
Definitely 100% talking points. Every exec in the company is saying the same cr-p. In their defense, I'm sure there's a bunch of them that think WFH is d-mb, but the boss tells them to "lead" by pretending it's a great idea. You don't get to the top without carrying the execs water from time to time. I'm very glad that in my role in not expected to do this, because I'm a horrible liar, absolutely no one would buy it, and my directs would think less of me for even trying.
Some of the comments are amazingly out of touch as well. I wonder if some of these execs have ever been in mass transit in their lives. If you haven't seen a dr-g deal, an OD, someone vomiting on someone else, a fight etc. you probably haven't commuted in a major city for long. There's nothing relaxing about it. You pay attention so you don't become a victim or collateral damage.
This is definitely a talking point. Keep hearing from many executives how nice it is to be back in the office. I guess it is if you have an office but for those of us in unassigned seating it’s a joke. No impromptu meetings as everyone wants to get their hours in and get out to avoid the rush hour commute. I had way better conversations with my coworkers during wfh. In the office you have no idea who is listening. So awkward. It’s like that party where everyone pretends to have fun just to be nice but can’t wait to leave.
These execs are dinosaurs. Not an innovative, useful thought in their heads.
Relaxing????!!!! The transit system I use has always been frequented by crazy and/or homeless people. Either screaming nonsense at full volume, smelling worse than a pothead sprayed by a skunk or both. They are even more noticeable on the still-empty trains.

was on a risk ama this morning and he spent the first 5+ minutes talking up RTO and how great it is to go walk by someone's office/cube and have an impromptu conversations as opposed to trying to get on their schedule. he then spent the next 10min responding to a question about crypto, didn't realize that was top of mind for everyone these days. all these execs are defined being coached.

It's a new talking point. Even for those driving, I've heard two leaders talk about how nice it is listening to music, podcasts or books on tape.
Some of us have to commute by car, over an hour one way. Anything but relaxing.
"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain". Or, if you prefer "These are not the droids you are looking for".

I think the senior leaders are being coached to talk about how relaxing commuting is. I’ve heard it in two calls in the past week.
