Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

The world didn't end

The first week of RTO is behind us and the world didn't end. Give it another 4-5 weeks and nobody will be talking about it at all, I'm guaranteeing you. People get used to things faster than many of you think, even when it's not something they enjoy. I wonder what the next "issue of the moment" is going to be when the RTO drama dies down.

You think working in an office magically makes you productive? You must, if you assume that working from home magically makes you lazy.

We do understand the value of a dollar and we understand it’s less than it used to be.

We also know that modern companies and modern technology allows people to work whenever, from wherever they want.

We also know that office work is being outsourced and replaced with AI and it will affect everyone from tech support to bankers to underwriters very soon. Office work won’t make you immune to those layoffs. In many cases it will make you more at risk.

No one who understands the value of a dollar flushes them down the toilet of burning gas, and wasting time getting ready for work and driving to/from an office with a less productive work environment. I wouldn't say RTO is useless for all positions / jon descriptions, but it is for anyone that has no members of their team at their assigned site. One site fits all is horrendously inefficient and simplistic.

I may be whiny but I’m more workaholic then layabout. Like most of the WFH crowd, I have pride in my work and I work my @ss off, evenings, weekends, while on PTO etc. whatever it takes to meet my deadlines and still produce good work that I can be proud of. I just don’t need my employer condescending to me that I need to do said work with my bu-t glued to an uncomfortable chair in some arbitrary location with a bunch of strangers that have nothing to do with the work I do. I don’t need a babysitter. I put on my grown @ss man pants every day and do my job - even when those pants are sweatpants and my job is done on a computer from my much better equipped home office.

Can all the whiny layabouts just quit already? Go work somewhere if you want to be a shut-in. You’re not special, and you’re easily replaceable with people who want to work and understand the value of the dollar.

Powell, don't you have better things to do than post RTO puffery? So embarrassing.

We aren't returning. Fire all of us or grow up. It's 2022, dinosaur!

You won’t know until 2-4 weeks out if there is an outbreak because of exec foolishness.

Good to see WFH fashion persists into the office! Seen more than one person wearing baseball hats, sweatpants, etc

Be interesting to see if this is something ignored or addressed

“People get used to things faster than many of you think, even when it's not something they enjoy.

OP says this like it’s a good thing. No. It is not a good thing. It is something manipulative people say.

Life is short. Various entities want to impose their own rules and needs on you in order to benefit themselves. WFC leadership is hoping you will quiet down and behave like obedient dependents.

Stand up for yourselves and your co-workers. Be appropriate, but speak out. Most importantly, find work with a company with forward-thinking leaderships who wants to invest in your talents.

OP - The world didn’t end when so many of us moved to remote work two years ago either. Your statement is pointless and doesn’t change the facts that RTO is just a old rich guy’s power play.

"...nobody will be talking about it at all".

At the very least, I sure hope those concerned with preserving shareholder value are talking about it. And staying cognizant of how other financial institutions, fintechs and other large corporates shift where it was once assumed they needed to occupy offices/towers/campuses to operate.

You're right. The world didn't end. I worked from home like normal. No comments or complaint from management. BAU as far as I can see.

I think it will soon be an even bigger topic. It is uncomfortable trying to find an empty desk that isn’t in the middle of a “team”. It is difficult to try to schedule in-office days with your own team so you can collaborate. Many people just seem to be here to do their 3 days do no interactions. I might as well be in the parking lot and would have the same effect as being at a desk.

Agreed, the sooner executives stop talking about it, the better.

Do most people shower and eat dinner in the office now?

From what I heard the few that did go in found the floors were pretty empty!!
Agree it is the topic of the moment, tho a lot of team members were wfh before covid --so the push to get us face to face to "collaborate" may not wane too quickly.
I get the feeling my manager will stay on my team like a the dog he is with his bone. Claims no reports are being compiled "yet"of badge swipes.

Hi OP. No one is denying the resiliency of WF team members (uh, sorry Charlie - employees). At issue is should WF team members be resilient when faced with RTO. I believe that WF team members should not be in this case, not when the health of themselves and their loved ones are concerned. No easy solutions but avoiding the issue does not help either.

Hardest part of my commute was trying not to trip over a sleeping dog while carrying a hot cup of coffee and a plate of bagels on my way to my desk at home...sigh the struggle is real.

Most people didn’t go in. If we stop talking about it, it’ll be because they opted not to actually enforce it.
