I'm in the office today. Pretty quite. There are only handful of people around. A few polite head nods in passing. No water cooler talk yet. I put on headphones and will enjoy the privacy of my cube. 😀

I did - I began at lunch and finished when I left, but it only took about 15 mins. It was not a difficult thing to type out. Went home, Pulsed in and got more done in that hour than I did all day.
Don’t be so hard on yourself… you managed to write a giant novel in one day on a smart phone. That’s impressive to me!

XX- Onboarding is not more challenging when remote. The biggest issue with onboarding is people who forget to do requests correctly and non-technical people not remembering the processes to set people up correctly. That won't change in office.
XX- Team building -- most teams are spread far and wide. In office versus remote there is no difference. It will still be done through apps. I will continue to need a headset and laptop for team building activities. Team building doesn’t help me do my job any better than trying to get my non athletic son to take over Tom Brady's quarterback position in the NFL. It’s useless.
XX- Networking - I will continue to plan to spend as much time as I can apart from others and this will not change for many years if ever. Networking isn’t required to be done in person. What is required is my ability to get a job done, which can be done remotely. Physical presence is an obstacle and not a boon.
XX - Solving complex problems remotely - that can’t be done? Did we not get nearly all of our staff working remotely in extremely short time when COVID started? Sounds like a pretty complex problem that was solved remotely, since most of technology was home before other groups. If solving a problem requires you to be in person yall are using a sorely outdated model. Physical presence is an obstacle and not a boon.
XX- ‘Energy can’t be facilitated through a screen’ - yes it can. Ever hear of movies? TV? Do yall require they all be performed in front of you in person? ‘Energy’ is B$ it’s called acting. I don’t need to act to do my job well. I am not a fake person and I do not ever worry about ‘energy’ for my job.
XX - ‘joy in seeing our colleagues’ - This has never been something on anyone’s radar in my immediate group or the other group I am a part of. We saw each other just as well in Teams and Skype and even if we didn't see the other person, it made no difference at all. Call me, instant message me - O.K. Face to face isn’t happening. The same people pushing this particular lie are the ones who assume that because someone's status is green in our instant message client the recipient should reply immediately - this is an incorrect assumption.
As it looks right now, remote work days will be the only days I will be able to get any work done. I have been here for 7 hours so far and I have yet to accomplish a single thing. Instead I have had to refer over two dozen people to desktop support, corporate properties, tech express, network groups, conferencing groups, voice services and management. I had to move my desk twice when someone asked if they could sit by a coworker since they are in the same group. Each time I move it’s 20-30 mins of disinfecting each cube. I had 7 people stand right outside of my cube and try to talk on the phone since cell service is so awful here. They also knock on the wall and ask for directions. I have had 17 people knocking on the door 15 feet away and they won’t stop knocking because they can’t get in. So then I have to direct them to the badging assistance area and then do the same thing again a few minutes later.
It has firmly cemented the fact that RTO is not beneficial in any way. Office work is the old way of doing things, is less efficient, is more stress, is more of a hinderance to getting actual work done, and at worst it is a total waste of time. I could have logged on at home, started my day and been deep into my work. Instead I am directing traffic while work piles up. You can forget about doing it when I get home. Overtime isn’t allowed for our group.
That is what i have heard. My coworker said about 15 ppl showed up for his floor which holds about 200.
I have found zero value from being back. It is just a hassle. Todays RTO value score -2/10.
Sounds like a god awful waste of time. Why can’t they just let us work from home? I am far happier and more productive. Oh well, back to the job search.
