Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Predict the tone after RTO fails

How is management going to pivot when they realize the majority of employees aren't going back to the office?

Do they threaten disciplinary action?
Do they backpedal?
Do they whine like the board troll?

My money is on threatening discipline, then backpedaling when they realize it doesn't have the power they thought it does. They can't fire half the bank and claim it's more efficient, it's already less efficient without meeting their staff reduction targets.

More likely an excuse for layoffs.

If indeed there is such a thing, they cut their own throat with their offshoring the last 10 years. Why would a young person go into technology when they saw their parents laid off and their job sent overseas.

Actions have consequences, even for the elite.

If we have to rely on AI, we all will be in trouble. When has technology ever worked without a bunch of humans in the background fixing everything? I don’t know how many applications I’ve had to correct or review stuff. These were all supposed to be the greatest things. Nope. You have to fix or override things all the time.

Management will request additional H1B visas because there is a shortage of American workers. Your job will bring someone and their family from China, the Philippines, or more likely, India.

You give them too much credit. Management wanted a 20% reduction in workers. They would be thrilled to see an 80% reduction due to layoffs and attrition. They’d congratulate themselves on being over-achievers, award themselves bonuses, and not ever acknowledge that they did not act in the best interest of the company. Not to mention- has there actually been any savings in personnel expenses for the company? Seems we’re paying more for all the new C suite execs than all of the ‘regular employees’ they laid off.

Contrary to popular belief by MBA graduates who never actually did the job, you can’t automate everything.

Those who have tried that tack were quickly proven wrong and shown the door after they lost all their talent and it failed.

Been there, saw that, same management team. Shocking, right?

Universal income will be the next big thing in a decade or so, from the number of job losses from AI. We will hit a point at which over 50% of the workforce is unemployable due to the cost of retraining vs the money savings that AI and automation brings.

I think they’ll just quietly stop enforcing it. When they feel like letting someone go though, they’ll pull up their badge history and use it as justification.

Sub-delta back at his whining, again.

Apparently you haven't read countless threads on this site or paid attention to key point in articles, sm feedback, etc. WFH WAS NOT MEANT TO BE TEMPORARY FOR THOSE WHO'VE HAD IT IN THEIR CONTRACTS AND WHO'VE WFH FOR OVER A DECADE.

Got it?! Get your facts straight before attempting to school people.

And aside from that, since it's been proven that WFH has resulted in greater productivity, why shouldn't a company adapt to change and value its employees' feedback? Wouldn't THAT be the epitome of Agile???

Those who don't know how to adapt, innovate, and respect employees are doomed to fail.

I completely understand where everyone is coming from. We had the taste of full time remote work for over two years because of a pandemic. NOT because WF thought it was a great idea. In fact pre COVID technology already announced the LOCATION strategy where many people were already notified they would be displaced because i they worked too far from a hub. For now they still have a reprieve. So now unfortunately what was done as a TEMPORARY solution is not an entitlement. I would like the government to continue the yearly covid checks too.

I understand but no one is entitled to a job at any company. Don’t like the rules leave and go to the company that gives you the location you want. Simple. This is a layoff site. Let’s get back to that because right now that is what you should be worried about not RTO

@pwi+1fIyr8hW:

What irrational logic! What does religion have to do with RTO? These are a a lot of mental gymnastics and defeatist attitudes (and I don't want to go into the office either because I'm more productive from home). I'm going to jump in the fray day one, get in the trenches, carve out a space, work, find my workmates and chat — 2 days a week.

Go into the office if it helps you be more productive.

Don't go into the office if it doesn't.

Whatever you do, don't be lemmings.

One size does NOT fit all.

I predict that most companies will back away from RTO as we see sky rocketing gas prices and people moving to remote jobs only. We are already seeing companies begin to offer remote work to attract new employees. They will have to start offering remote work to existing employees. These corporations wanted people to have flexibility in working remotely and created this disaster. They have no one to blame but themselves.

I predict that some form of toothless disciplinary action will be threatened, but ultimately backpedaled when the Productivity Revolt brings the last two years of progress to a grinding halt. Charlie will save face by throwing Scott under the bus as “The Face of RTO”, while senior execs continue to jump ship leaving half finished initiatives and she’ll projects for the rest of us to autopsy and eventually discard as performative corporate theater. We’ll be WFH again by May at the latest. RTO is already a failure.

I expect they'll go full imaginary friend and mention the "pr-------t work ethic". Religion loves discipline, so they'll be vengeful like the good religious people they are.
