Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Is Intel still operating in Russia?

Specifically, are those software teams in Moscow and Nizhniy Novgorod still part of Intel?

They are not suspended. They seem to be on a administrative (paid) leave.

For sure Russians are still employed by Intel. Probably numbers in the high hundreds between Moscow and Nizhny. So indirectly since those people pay taxes to Russian government, Intel is funding Russia's war on Ukraine.
Can Intel just fire all those employees? It's not that simple. They would need to replace them. So until they can be replaced, they need to keep those Russian employees. My guess is that Pat G. (CEO) isn't super happy about that situation. Pat is very Christian and likely sees Putin as most other people see him (2nd Hi---r) But he's got like 90 other problems to worry about (competition on all fronts and EUV litho switch). So don't expect Intel to do anything about that soon...

"We value the position of those foreign companies that, despite the inexcusable pressure from the U.S. and its vassals, continue to work in our country,” he said. “Going forward, they will definitely receive additional opportunities for development.”

Thanks Intel!!

I think Intel should be consistent politically not only economically.
Why stop shipping chips for commercial purpose but keep hiring the Russian team?

Wow, what a surprise that Intel is the same hypocrite as the rest of the western companies/politicians!
Would you like to bet that as soon as things settle a bit, most of those companies that left Russia slamming the door, would quietly return back? Because money always wins.

It seems to be a cheap and easy statement by stopping the chips sales since Russia has a small market share.
But firing 1200 Russian may just be too costly since it's way more expensive to hire labors in the US.

@1tjs: you are very naive. You assumed people would voice “against” it if you could pinch them. They could resent you, not the other way around.

Love all the virtue signaling, it’s so easy and cheap. Go over and fight there instead of pretending your feelings matter. It’s the Russian government that is doing this, not the Russian people. Do you agree with everything the US government does? Even when the orange man was in charge?

@isl+1fDbu0FP No, people who work there are not. But they have nice, comfortable lives and are perfectly okay with letting Putin continue doing what he's been doing because it doesn't affect them. When you make sure that it affects everybody then you can hope to effect some change. Then the Ukraine invasion is not something abstract that they can distance themselves from, but something that's causing them to lose their livelihood. Then maybe they'll try to inform themselves on what's going on and just maybe raise their voice against it.

You think the Intel Russians are responsible for the war?

If you want to knee cap Putin, start with cutting off the money hose with respect to Russian oil and maybe stop victimizing innocent people that have nothing to do war.

People aren't anti-Russian for no reason, it is because they are targeting non-agressors, not to mention indescriminent ki----g of civilians. That is what is out of hand.

This anti- anything-Russia is getting out of hand.

It’s the new McCarthyism.

Stop and think for just a moment before blindly following lemmings off a cliff.

Of course. Intel's most capable SWEs are in Russia since it couldn't afford to compete with the FANG companies' for non-captive talent.
