Anniversary Cube

Got an Anniversary Cube for X years of service (without getting a Layoff).

What should I do with it...?

My 10 & 15 years the cube was automatically sent to me with a certificate. They are in a box with few other pieces of swag. At 20 years I got to pick what I wanted from around 3 or 4 things. I got the money clip. It's still in its original box now in the box as the cubes. I've donated some swag (water bottles, scarves, stuffed ponies, pens, sticky notes, etc) received over the years. Some stuff I threw out. Cubes, awards and such are in a box. Been WFH for over 10 years and nothing at my desk indicates where I work. Instead I decorate with personal items that bring me joy. But, do with it what you want. Everyone is different from those who put every single piece of paper, swag and awards at their desk to those who cringe when the see the WF logo.

Threw them all away and didn’t bother to order my own. Didn’t even get a 20 year certificate. Very clear - tenure means you are irrelevant.

Flush it down the toilet at the office and clog the entire plumbing system.

It’s a cheap piece of garbage. I guess it shows us how we are valued. Save it for a trip to NY. You to where/who to aim it.

I hit 20 years of service last year. I received a certificate in the mail and instructions on how to request my years of service cube if I wanted one. 20 years here and this was the first time I had to request that acrylic recognition cube. I mean at 10 years I was given an engraved desktop clock and the cube. 10 years later I got a piece of paper in the mail.

When your entire management chain has an average of one year or less of service, they don’t place any value on you being here a long time. Do whatever you want, but I ordered mine if only to force this company to spend a couple bucks on me. It’s sitting on my desk and serves as a daily reminder that after years of sacrifices and 1-2% raises I had to ask for some recognition from people who really could not care less. The little things that Management did to show they care are gone. We are not people anymore. We’re liabilities on a balance sheet and whatever they can do to make us cost less they’re going to do.

To conclude, I’ll pass on a piece of advice given to me by someone with way more years of service than me, “Run.”

  • drill a ho-e
  • put a chain on it
  • wear it
  • take a selfie with it
  • send the picture to Chuckie and coffee meister (if you are in tech)
  • expect more raise next year

Don’t get me started! Mine all went right in the trash. To me - those cubes are a physical symbol of Wells Fargo arrogance, out-of-touch leadership, and indifference.

My manger asked me on my 10 what I wanted. My response was my first promotion. I got the cube and she later got the boot to another job in WF.

Simple! Here is what I would do: wrap it in aluminum foil and put it in the microwave . Do not switch the microwave on. The last step is most important .

When I finally had enough, I divested myself of my 20 & 25 year cubes, along with my banner full of cult pins.

But, that's just me, your milage may vary.

I just asked them to throw mine out when they demolished my office so they could build out the RTO cubes. I should have had all my personal stuff shipped home and done it myself but why waste the time?

Keep it as a war memorabilia and a testimony to your survival capabilities. I kept all of mine.
