401K matching question

Sorry couldn't find info on benefits book and so thought it might be helpful for other folks. My question is around the matching contribution in 401K.

  1. Once the money lands in my 401K account on 12/31 and say I quit in March '22, will I lose all the 401k match?
  2. Is there a way to not have the 401K match money get automatically investing in WF stock (probably answer is no based on benefit book, but still checking).

Cheers!

Will be a good opportunity to take a good look at your asset allocation within your 401k, and re-allocate as you see fit.

Agree with the others on dumping the WF stock. It was an obvious BUY at $20. But at $50 - I don't think so. Given the runup in the last few months, it may even be a good SHORT.

Reallocate funds the moment the stock hits your 401K acct. That's what wise people do.

Question 1 can only be answered if we know your vesting info/years of employment. I believe if you refer to vesting rules you can answer your question for your situation, but if you are fully vested there is no claw-back of the match (at least for my date of hire).

The answer to #1 is - No, will not lose money. You should rebalance as someone else stated.
#2 - No

I only know the answer to question #2, which is there is no way to automatically prevent the match from being in WFC stock. That has never been the case with any other employer I’ve worked for. The only solution is to set a reminder in your calendar to sell all or part of it once it hits. I can assure you that most employees who survived the WCHV do exactly this now.
