headhunters don't work for candidates or try to place them. they work for employers. If you are a candidate that interests them for a position they have open, they will be communicative with you. If you aren't in the sweet spot for an opening they have, they won't be working with you.
The best things you can do : (1) s get your linked in profile in the right shape for recruiters to find you. That means getting rid of all wf-specific lingo and expressing your jobs and accomplishments in terms that people are searching for. You can get an idea of those by searching for jobs that fit your background, and see trends/patterns in how the functions are described, (2) start putting word out in your network (3) be sure to help as much as you ask for help.
