Let's settle this. If RTO is the straw that broke the camel's back for you and you're planning to leave over it, please say so here. It seems that many are doubting there are a lot of us who are simply done with it all and that yes, we will walk on account of this. But maybe I'm wrong and I'm in the minority. Let's see.

If I am working 80 hrs a week I'd much rather be doing it at home than in an office. 5am, 11pm, I don't care. Whatever you need, whenever you need it. I put in around 65 from home each week, but a strict 40 when in the office. Need something outside of my regular work hours? Not answering calls, texts, or emails if I have to fight traffic to and from the office, plus deal with the piles of BS that happen in office every day. I'm switched off outside of my normal work hours when working in office.
RTO is the last thing that would get me to leave. I'm actually kinda looking forward to going back in from time to time.
2 things will make me leave.
1 - I get laid off and get a package.
2 - I finally get fed up with the level of dysfunction and stupidity.
Working 80 hours a week in tech throughout the entire COVID era did me in. I don’t care that it was from home… the pressures to PRODUCE were unsustainable. I resigned and it was the best move ever.
I’m laying the groundwork now and likely will leave after bonuses hit in February.
Everybody that I know is what the leadership is calling deadwood.
We're all ready to retire and are just waiting for a layoff or a package offer. No sense at all to voluntarily leave and give up the easy paycheck.
I'm not talking just a few disgruntled people. I'm talking every day normal people. Lots of us.
After bonuses are paid I'm out.
I left 3 weeks ago. RTO was my final straw.
My new job is in big tech for a company you most certainly have heard of. Full time remote forever, $200k in stock options, sign on bonus, and I make more $ to boot. Plus all the goodies that only big tech can offer.
When I called my manager to give my notice, he listened to me for about 15 seconds and said he didn't blame me.
Heh, the last two years, I don't even think I have driven that much.
The scamdenic has saved me some a couple of bucks, but those savings were wiped out by my massive increase in daydrinking.
I purposefully live in a very walkable community with a fantastic public transportation system and have only driven my car about 800 miles all year. I WFH pre-Covid and now with RTO will have to drive 60 miles a day round trip at least 3 days a week to go into an office where non of my coworkers will be sitting. So yeah this is d-mb and adds to my carbon footprint in a significant way.
I am starting with a new company in a couple of weeks. 100% remote. It wasn’t the entire last straw - maybe 20% of it, but it did lead me to accept an offer that, though it was a solid increase, was not all I hoped for initially. Seems like a much bigger win with RTO off the table.
And yes, I will still come here as I find it very entertaining and the confirmation bias dopamine kick I get from validating my departure decision feels great.
God speed, stagecoach.
Down vote away, you know it's true. I'm sure there's one grass skirt wearing cave dweller here that's a true environmentalist. The rest burn petro to drive around for things that are not needed to sustain life. Breaking news, your carbon credit purchase and political leanings don't make your emissions "ok". In any event, you're perfectly fine with them in any circumstance other than driving to work. Makes it pretty obvious what the real issue is. Not that I'm hating, I agree that RTO is counterproductive, just don't make laughable arguments against it when there's so much low hanging fruit that is unassailable.
As with everything around here, lots of barking, no action.
I like petro-efficiency as much as anyone, but I'm guessing that everyone here complaining about global warming also drives their own car to get anywhere they are going on their time...and they only seem outraged by their own emissions when it's fuel taking them to work. If it was going to the mall or the movies or to a concert or to a friend's or to a restaurant or on vacation, well that would be "just fine". Drive to work, unacceptable!
There's plenty of arguments against RTO that aren't hypocritical.
RTO will be another failure for WF to add to the ongoing list. They have lost and will continue to lose top talent on the teams and don't seem to care. They seem to think the top talent is easily replaced with folks in India and the Philippines. The extra time staff gave to the company can now be spent sitting in traffic for up to 4 hours a day and destroying our environment by forcing everyone to commute. Thanks WF!
I don’t see your question as disrespectful. I normally don’t come here anymore. To be honest I’m sick with a cold and bored on the couch. I came here and posted a good amount when I was a Team Member and over the months that has slowed down a bunch. Most of the stuff I see here doesn’t really hold my interest as much now that’s it’s not my problem. When I worked at WF I really didn’t want to leave but once I did I realized how much better things could be. For starters I’m at a bank that is focused on growth. Its hard to explain just what a different that makes by itself. None of us are under the constant stress of being laid off. I make double what I was making at WF and I work the hours that best fit my schedule. As long as my work gets done which is manageable. To be fair I lost a few PTO days but It’s so much better and I hope you all find a working relationship like this with wells or not.
I’m leaving. But will do so on the evening of RTO. I want to return the first day. Reason being, I want to drop a big time nasty in the can followed by emptying all of the TP in the toilet leading to a flood. I’ll be at the Chinese buffet the Sunday before to ensure it’s a legendary one. Will use a bit of laxative too for greasing the wheels.
Then, tuna in the microwave, pubes in the coffee pots, and pieces of salmon left in several team members drawers. To ensure tech is affected, I’ll smear sn-t on their keyboards. Then, bananas in the tailpipes and KY jelly on door handles on way to car. Oh, popits in the elevators along with some of my dogs pu-e to lube the elevator buttons.
Enjoy
Crickets is all you will hear in the hallways on 2/7. I’m so outa here then.
I got locked-in for remote, so I'm good to go (for now).
I’m in tech and have always worked 60 hour weeks. Work from home was limited to weekends… never a comp day. During the COVID era the days became progressively longer and I had to work 80+ hour weeks. It became abusive so I decided that 40 full time+ years was more than enough and took early retirement.
Money is tight but doable. I may look into some part time NON tech work next year as Social Security allows this, but right now I am enjoying life and am pleased that I’m having less and less nightmares every week.
Yep, will leave tread marks on my way out! Been holding off accepting another offer until I give notice day after the Dec 15th.
Most of these posts are all talk.
Stay until your bonus hits your bank account.
Then give notice or at least start looking.
And I mean after that check clears.
If your bonus isn't going to change your lifestyle, or if WF is just wrecking you emotionally and mentally, bail when you get a good offer.
I did and life is better. So much better.
Good luck to all my old coworkers and Happy Holidays!
If folks were truly fed up and they had options, head count target for 2021 would have been met by now.
Great chance are that people do not have good options.
I'm afraid that chainsaw may need new blades to meet his headcount objective.
I plan on leaving if they are forcing RTO. There is literally no point in wasting 5 hours of my time driving.
Same here. I only came to WF years ago because I could telecommute. Turned down higher offers because of it. Dealt with all the BS, long hours, non-stop bad news for employees because I could telecommute.
If telecommuting is going away, there’s no reason to stay!
I’m considering it after we get bonus. The stress/frustration of traffic/stupid drivers, breathing cr---y moldy air in an old building, & then the amount of work that won’t get done because we have to commute to office now, I will find another remote position. I easily worked 45-50 hours a week from home. WF will only get 40 hours from me now & if I have to respond to issues from India teams after hours, I will bake that time into my 40 hours.
Me! I 100% will be leaving in 2022 due to RTO.
I left MONTHS ago over it! Mainly because my last two roles, THEY, not me, didn't want to pay for office space to CPG anymore and were good with pushing us to be remote. Then comes the so called Attrition Strategy this year. It work, I left! I have a remote role now and will NEVER go back to an office or move for any SCHITT BAG company, ever again.
SC--W WELLS FARGO!
@hkz+1efTQKng
No disrespect intended, but if you left, why the H do you continue to come to the WF layoff site?
I am betting it will be temporary as well….in Charlotte at least they never had the space for everyone to be in the office at the same time and from what I’ve heard they are cramming together open seating…sounds like a nightmare and I bet some will see that and just refuse to keep coming in. Or people will try to go in and there won’t be any space so they leave.
Me! I only took this job because it was telecommuting. I already knew WF was terrible but I can put up with pretty much anything from home. I am just waiting for the bonus and then I am “out like a scout on a brand new route. “
Not before 401k match and bonuses hit but after that heading for the exits. No interest in wasting my time commuting to an office when I can be more effective working from home.
You're definitely in the minority OP, but why should that be considered a bad thing again?
I wouldn't leave over RTO, because it's possible to minimize it and IMO it's temporary. The CEO is a turn around CEO, he'll be out in a year or two, and things will likely get better. If not, enforcement will probably get more lax. Either way, it's temporary.
I did. My manager started talking about “when we come back” a year ago. I updated my resume and was gone in less than 2 months. Im permanently remote now. The closest office to me is a five hour drive.
