Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

When did this site turn into a technology group forum?

It is obvious that tech 1) has too much time on their hands 2) is self centered.

Almost every comment made by someone who identifies as being in tech only worries about that group and not the rest of the company. Worst is the (insert pompous voice) "...well you minions, if you would have pursued a degree in a real field, you can be like us..." mentality so many exhibits. Get over yourselves. Go back to the office or just LEAVE.

Umm what makes essentially a comment section more techy than FB? You literally need no other skills than to know how to press letters on a keyboard

There's likely more comments and posts from tech people b/c they're also the ones that look at this stuff and comment on sites.

I'd bet most of the non-tech people pretty much stick to FB vs other more tech oriented sites.
Nobody is stopping anybody from commenting on other areas of the company. We heard a bunch of things from risk before.

@cuo+1eeFeNGU lol, ok. Get real. Pretty much any function can be outsourced. What can't be outsourced it the knowledge of the company, the business and yes much of how the tech works.

LOL. EDS makes us look like cutting edge in comparison. H*ll, they make Hogan look to be state of the art and they get distributed systems like IBM got the PC.

No, we are FinTech circa 2002.

Own it or you have no prayer of moving forward.

Being in tech sucks.

A lot of friends do their 9-5 M-F and that is it. I'm working nights and weekends all the time. This weekend marks the 10th straight I have to work.

A lot of my friends don't have to spend their free time studying to try to stay current in their field. This studying is done with out of pocket money since training at corporations sucks. Even our current tech online training partner sucks because it is all videos. Hands on labs are needed. So we have to invest to build our own home labs or rent time in online labs.

My son is in college. He switch majors to Computer Science seeing the $$$ signs despite me warning him that if he wants a life outside of work, he needs to stay in an engineering field.

If I could turn the clock back 20+ years, I'd take a different path. Now I'm in too deep with financial responsibilities of providing for a family and college for two kids, I couldn't take the salary hit to start all over.

Should be fun when there is an outage and instead of all the techies hanging out eating dinner at desk, they will have to head home to catch a bus/train/etc

I thought it was the risk group, like technology they can function remotely. Especially when the hot mess Wells is keeps many working around the clock. Don't forget the HR folks and shills. Btw, I'm whining after hours.

Went through it, had a few startups sell or close that caused job loss, but new ones were popping up just as fast. I didn’t miss more than a day or two of employment and still haven’t, to this day. It may have been a financial ruin, but technology didn’t stop growing. Even now, if some sort of bubble bursts technology jobs will still be needed because it’s most likely the biggest ingredient in our entire economy and society now…and it’s still growing.

Some people need to be licensed. Does an AI?

Why do you think they are pushing so hard for your processes to be standardized amongst you guys? Its for two reasons:

  1. Automation, which is far better than you seem to think it is. Everything you do is captured and fed into the AI so it learns even more.
  2. Offshoring. Once they figure out how to standardize it and make it as cookie cutter as they can, they will offshore it to save money.

There may be handfuls left for those rare instances where things get complicated...but those are pretty much the only two choices above.

There’s only so much automation can do. How about trying to make a robot apply regs and statutes to a customer with multiple account types, in bk and has a deceased wife with a trust and business account. Honestly, you cant automate everything like you think and some people need to be in the US or licensed to perform certain duties. Get a grip.

Tech has taken over this site like a bunch of Russian trolls on a fb profile.

Tech could never be outsourced 100%. Nearly all of the rest of jobs at WF could be, however. Robo-advisor is removing FA's currently. Underwriting, very soon. Imaging, doc prep, and the rest would be soon after that. Anything that is analytics or number crunching is the easiest to automate. Eventually lots of tech will be automated too, but there would be far too much risk involved in outsourcing it all.

Unlike most of the rest of the company, tech can be 100% outsourced.

You folks counting the coins are needed, but there are companies like EDS that will supply systems and staff for pretty much all of IT.

If you're adding value you will either be safe in your job or end up somewhere that appreciates you.

If you are not adding value it seems you're here trying to pick a fight with some nerds.

While we're on the subject of tech -- about 30 years ago, if I could have known that non-technical women at Wells Fargo would be attempting to lead technical teams of engineers, I may have picked a different profession. Our Agile meetings are more like planning a wedding than building software -- "ummm, did you send the invitations yet? Did we decide on the dress colors ?" LOL

Won't ever happen. Tech is behind automation, which is replacing all of the other jobs. Tech is needed for their cost reductions.

They better hope tech doesn't crash again, otherwise they're going to be unemployed for years like 2000.

They’re coddled here and I think, to put it delicately, personalities with difficulties empathizing with others tend to be overrepresented there (not necessarily through any fault of their own if you catch my drift). The RTO thing burst their bubble and they are having difficulty adapting to a change to their routine.

The world is Tech now. Not saying that's a good thing as a lot of the human connection has been lost, but it is what it is. Working in Tech was much more enjoyable 20 years ago, so Tech has kind of eaten it's own lunch.

All employees deserve to be treated better. Tech isn't special but we have more exit options because supply of tech employees is less than the demand for tech employees in the labor market. My peers in other areas of the company are just as smart as I am. I would expect them to leave if they had easy options as well. I expect that you'll hear less from the tech employees after the bonus paychecks clear. There's honestly nothing to be gained by infighting here. The problem is the C-suite, not tech.
