Pick the right parents and you start with much, much more than that from day 1.
Total Comp? I never include the bonus in any salary considerations because it’s too easy for the company to change the rules mid stream.
In engineering and infosec 100k base is pretty easy out of college.
The jump to 200k BASE is a tough one but is doable depending on skillset.
You also have to consider some telecommuter folks take a lower level job (individual contributor) so that they can have a 1099 contractor side gig.
In my side gig I am pulling in 90 per hour plus my wells pay.
Never. I'm lucky to not be scrubbing toilets somewhere (similar job, this one just smells better) but I came in with only a GED. Lucky to make the $95K I do earn.
Which IC roles pay over 200k
Most people these days make 100k on day one. Few will reach 200k ever.
To make that kind of money, you have to job jump.
With inflation, the day is coming where 200k won't be that much, and 100k will make you eligible for food stamps.
Pretentious d*uche.
Did it by 35. Jump from IC to manager. Now I’m over 275k and back to IC just coasting till retirement
I hit $200k in total comp in my early to mid 30’s at Wells. This was 10 years ago (or longer). I have always been an individual contributor.
You have to have a plan to get to that level of earning. Your existence doesn’t entitle you to it. Sine may earn that much at 25, 45, or never.
I was just chatting with Conor about this at the water cooler and he referred to $200,000 in Total Compensation as “Minimum Wage”.
The real question is this: will you even be able to afford to live in a small apartment on those wages by the time you get them? Inflation be fierce, yo. We're headed to Weimar Republic levels of inflation if we don't check ourselves. And no, they didn't think it would happen to them either.
This was a good response:
Not about age, it's about skill, career path and location.
40 years
If you started at $100K and got the typical 1.5% each year, it'd take you about 48 years. Of course, you'd probably hit a ceiling at maybe $125K (I'm spitballin'), so you'd have to move around if you wanted to exceed that.
He was referring to being a manager and it was actually pretty funny. If you’re one of the people complaining about RTO or you’re calling out a bunch over the past year and a half, you’re one of the children he’s referring too.
That being said, I’m an individual contributor as well and cracked 100k total comp first time this year at 31. 200k in my current job doesn’t seem possible, so I’ll have to keep moving up or change careers potentially to get there by 40… definitely should make that my goal though.
2nd grade
Elitist and thoughtless question.
Depends on location and timing. These days, the top schools are already producing people making 6 figures with an undergraduate degree. If you've made certain tradeoffs, you should be able to do it by age 30 in the big cities like SF and NY. Even in Austin / Texas, should be able to do this. But it isn't without the right choices.
Lol.
45 years old.
16 yrs old
Not about age, it's about skill, career path and location.
Based on the thought that went into the question, I'll say 157 years old.
Totally depends on career choice.
Stupid question for stupid people. I have my own children to raise? What does that have to do with this question? Typical bizarre Wells Fargo employees...
Individual contributed here….thanks for asking this question! My goal was 100k base pay by 30yo… this was attainable. Possibly could hit 200tvc by 35 but for sure by 40.
Being in management could help speed this process along but, I have my own children to raise…
