Vision Center Restructure Incoming

Restructuring of the Vision Centers likely coming soon. VCAM role being rolled out more widely, licensed VCM’s being demoted to LDO, and, depending on the sales volumes of the VC, unlicensed VCM’s given the choice to either be demoted to VC associate, move to Div 1, or be terminated.

  1. This eliminates VCM bonuses, since VCM will no longer be a role.
  1. This Decreases VC payroll across the board.

VCM will never go salaried. They will put a Div 1 Asst over VC and use VCAM over x amount of stores.

VCM’s will go salary next year, that’s why they weren’t part of the raises this year when the rest of the optical staff got raises.

Walmart should sell vision centers and pharmacies and just rent the space. The new owners would save probably $100 million/year just by starting everyone back over at 1-2 weeks vacation. They could also cut everyone’s wages 20% and save probably another $250 million. The new owners would rake in a 1/4 to a 1/2 billion in extra profits the first year.

Yes. That appears to be the plan. VCAM will likely have a revised and expanded role compared to the current VCAM job description. Currently the VCAM’s that are out there are required to be in their home store 3 days per week and in their 3-4 satellite stores the other two days per week.

What appears to be quite plausible, is that 1-2 VCM’s per market get promoted to VCAM. Any remaining licensed VCM’s in the market end up being demoted to just an LDO (for licensed states.) VCM’s who are not licensed will either be demoted to VC Associate, offered a div 1 role, or terminated, based on specific store and market needs.

The new VCAM role will primarily be responsible for managing the regulatory compliance aspects of the stores in their market, P&L integrity, perhaps scheduling, and doctor relations.

This is all just a theory….but it is a theory derived from the experience of having my job eliminated at multiple other companies over the years, either due to downsizing or bankruptcy and being able to see the true end game meaning behind moves and actions, well before that end game ever happens.

The VCAM shoUld be rolled out a pharmacist should’ve never never been in charge of the vision centers…H.O. Wonders why Vision is bleeding profit, it’s because you don’t have market leadership in your regions.

This doesn’t make sense. The VCAM role taking over the VCM role then?

Vision centers are headed for demise due to the fact the the health and wellness market directors have 0 optical knowledge or experience. They all have a pharmaceutical background and are of no benefit to opticians or daily operations of vision center. I personally gave up my optician job after 23 yrs due to an arrogant Moran being placed in a position of power. Vision centers need optical backgrounds at the top of the ladder. Walmart is it's own worst enemy.
