Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Anybody listening to Stank?

Someone asked how the great resignation is changing AT&T's approach to hiring and retaining good employees. He gave the most long winded and go nowhere answer I've ever heard. He basically said we only want employees who come in because they love their work and not because they get better pay, pensions, etc.

The most long winded and no where answer. It must have been a doozie coming from this windbag.

Today, 12/6, Stankey presented at UBS: "So we set out a goal of about $6 billion of expense savings. As you know, we're probably about a little over halfway through that as we close out this year. We've got a really solid plan in place to work through over the next 12 to 18 months to work the balance of that. And some of the momentum we're seeing frankly is so strong, I think we're going to continue to push and drive forward on some of these things even after we hit that $6 billion objective and it will be the benefit that we have to continue to drive our momentum in the market."

He expects to save an addition $3B over the next 12 to 18 months and in some areas continue reducing. Headcount is always an easy one!

You can't have it both ways?.....On one end we hear this is just a job and the company does not owe you anything, you get paid for the work, and benefits are not a right and can be taken away at any time etc. etc. Now we hear they want people who come in because they love the work and not because they get better pay, pensions, etc. Helloooo, we are not volunteers as we are at work to do a good job and to get compensated for the work we do and of course for the benefits taht provide for our families, period. Liking our jobs and our colleagues is a bonus.

It's a real shame T cannot compete in the large business enterprise market. TMOB has a monopoly on the small business sector. This leaves the mid size market for T to try and compete. Not gonna happen. T does not and has never known how to compete. They have, and always will, let competitors eat their lunch (so to speak).

The Stank is incapable of NOT alienating anyone in his chain of command. I date the demise of TW from the day he went to NY and arrogantly asserted that HBO wasn't doing it right because he knew more about TV than they did. The successful people who made HBO the powerhouse it was knew they could get work anywhere in the business and they did. The Stank sacrificed the goose that laid the golden egg for his precious ego. Now he is letting the smoking ruin go for pennies on the dollar. What a brilliant business leader LOL

Next time make sure you ask if Pension isn't a big deal at AT&T why is Randall still in the books and the board like a parasite.

You know what these sessions reminded me of? A pyramid scheme recuritment meeting. I was duped into attending one of these years ago, I realized what was happening after 5 minutes but didn't walk out, free food. All these young, well dressed, up and coming AVPs are priming for their opportunity to agree with Stank. The more people they can convince to go along, improve their brand, and higher the corporate ladder they can climb. The average after school special is more informative than these BS artists.

Some day, these videos will be leaked and be laughing stock. Just like the union actors in the Target video, telling how horrible it would be for Target employees to have union representation. Peace out.

The most egotistical so called conversation I've heard in some time. His voice is just full of sarcasm in every reference he makes about the employees.... And yes, fill the room with avps whose future prospects can change depending on what comes out of their mouths.

You can bet Stankey is watching his retirement balances by the hour, what a hypocrite! He was born at night, but not last night. What a snake in the grass!

"It is ridiculous for him to say people shouldn’t be watching their pension projection, 401K balance, etc."

Funny, why is the company paying billions in dividends, since we shouldn't care about stocks.

It is ridiculous for him to say people shouldn’t be watching their pension projection, 401K balance, etc. We aren’t making millions like you for gods sake so every dime counts when trying to live as responsible adults, parents and grandparents. Give me a break.

Why would any employee listen to anything the Stink has to say? If his lips are moving, then he is drooling and lying. If his lips are not moving, he is thinking of his next lie.

Setup a rule that all his lying emails go straight into the trash bin.

Open up the video, turn off the sound. Minimize it. Take a nice lap! Then charge your time accordingly! When the replay comes out, repeat as many times as you can stand to!

Profit! Don't suffer listening or watching his lying BS!

You want the best and brightest? Better break out the checkbook. Go ask Google, Facebook, Apple, Amazon, etc… what they pay their junior talent. I’ll give you an answer, 3-5x what ATT pays. Verizon and T Mo are also paying almost 2x what ATT is offering existing employees. How do I know? I’ve interviewed at all of them and just accepted an offer with a big tech company making 4x my current salary. You have done nothing to retain your best and brightest; therefore, all your plans are bound to fail when the folks that get it done leave the company.

I once was volunteered (FORCED!) to caddy at a SBC golf tournament. While lugging the executives golf bag, lunch and drink this now retired VP (ID--T) tells me that he misses the company, the people, the interaction, the excitement, the comradery, the intellectual veracity and on and on as he swung his friggin' club and me carrying everything for this loser. (He really meant, he enjoyed his huge paycheck and real benefits, free coffee, using the corporate CC, his free company provided car, more golf games, reading magazines, watching TV and his free travel all over the US in the corporate jet and getting paid a salary for 1 hour of work).
Yeah, I bet he did miss coming to work - but not for the same reasons that he alluded to.

"we only want employees who come in because they love their work and not because they get better pay, pensions, etc."

Translation: We want people who will work for nothing because it's more important that the money be used for my perks and bonuses than your paycheck.

You have to wonder, is he here because he loves his job? What does he take out of here a year? Has to be at least $20 million. Why does he need all that if he's having so much fun?

He's so stupid he doesn't even see how ridiculous he looks saying something like that. What a contemptible POS he is.

As the business is performing so poorly, you have wonder what Stankey has been doing since becoming CEO? Must be watching TV to back up his claim as "The" media expert.

He said it :
AT&T is losing business in the big enterprises
SMB: T-Mobile has it covered
Mid Market: We need to play there but we have to start at Step 0

I say:
2022 prediction
Reorg, lay off, revenue pressure

Planted question asked by an AVP with 0 experience that is about 30. I’m sure she’s a nice person and checks some boxes, but has 0 experience of the area she’s managing. How do we combat the great resignation? Idk, how about promoting folks up that have been here and paid their dues, folks that know the business and area they are in charge of, folks that have a history of success, paying big bonuses to lower level employees that have really performed, giving meaningful raises, etc…. People don’t want to work in deadend jobs where they are not rewarded or compensated based on their performance or level of responsibility. Not given the opportunity to advance because the bosses change every year and they start over in their career ladder. Not the fault of the person that asked the question really, but she is the poster child of what’s wrong with ATT. Just looking at that room, how many of those AVPs were barely in their 30’s? How is that possible if you promote the best and brightest, folks with actual experience. It doesn’t.
