They do this in office, too. Lazy is lazy, no matter where they work. That’s on management to let those people go. In most departments, productivity and employee wellbeing is higher than when working in office.

I'll be glad when these COVID WFH people are forced back into the office. They've made it more difficult for the rest of us who were permanently work from home with their laziness, getting caught installing mouse jiggler apps, etc.
As long as the anti vaxxers refuse to protect public health, there will be more and scarier variants as this virus continues to mutate. Anyone with any sense realizes this.

Nowhere near 50 years behind anyone. Maybe 5 or so. Mainframe emulators are used by many big banks because they have to work with government, courts or other entities that still use them. That is changing to web based versions as they update (like BK). Other LOBs have management who don't want to make their employees uncomfortable by changing processes so they resist when things change...but now those management people are being changed to people who will help pull those groups out of the rut they are in - either through automating those jobs or forcing changes.

These may be the hubs, but each line of business generally observes four, maybe five of them. In, say, Des Moines currently but want to move to another line of business where Des Moines isn't a hub? You're SOL.

If you work in AI you should be working towards a post job society as a whole. If not, you shouldn’t be in AI. I fully understand my role.
...and 5 years after that AI and contractors will eliminate the 'need' for that 25%. Don't enjoy the demise of others too much.
The new execs they are bringing in understand the importance of tech.
Many employees are feeding AI - the reason why so many departments are trying to standardize processes so badly right now - and don’t even realize it. Once it reaches its human level of error those jobs will evaporate quickly. Many jobs will be automated - more than most people think.

I don’t disagree with you that the company should be (at least) 25% tech, but I would be shocked if they do it. First, they are not bringing in those types of top executives who can pull off that kind of shift. Second, the other companies who made that shift committed to it by offering Voluntary Packages to non-tech and older long- term employees. This moved those employees out as quickly as possible, and then the companies replaced them with employees who had tech skills. WFC only knows how to move slow as molasses.
Wells Fargo execs aren’t decisive enough, aren’t committed to the bank enough, and don’t have the skill-set to pull off anything that elaborate or forward- thinking.

@ijyf is right, we are going back starting in January, no matter what. And an email went out from S Powell telling all the 2 downs from OC members to put on a happy face and show up to the office as frequently as possible. So perhaps we should be glad we aren’t two downs from the OC; at least we won’t have to fake it!
The numbers reporting to Saul do not include WFIP numbers. The total tech headcount is close to 40k or ~17%
Last Wednesday I was told by my manager - we are going back - no matter what. They will not delay any longer. Sorry for all those that like being at home. I prefer the office. To each their own.
I have heard from a “fairly good source” that the Jan 22 RTO is pretty much written in stone unless something dramatic happens. They are realizing that Covid isn’t going away anytime soon and they want butts in seats and they are very set on trying to make it happen with no further delays. In other words, there may never be a 100% perfect time, so they’re going to give it their best shot in January. Thus the recent communication on vaccination or weekly testing.
WFC will never be pro-WFH for most of us, unfortunately. Our management team and technology are stuck in the 80’s and they have no desire to change.
@1pog+1e0yUyCx, did you miss the memo that most of our hubs ARE in flyover country? SF is not a hub. And before anyone says but it is for Technology, only 10% of the bank's staff works in Tech and we're not a technology company. You'd never guess either from a lot of the posts here.

"So predictable" - as in when a new mutation arrives, they sequence it and modify the vaccine to be more effective? I'm glad it's predictable. Science is useful like that and predictability is a good thing.
I read that the scientists are currently working on a newly formulated Covid vaccine that will be more effective against the recent Covid variants. Meaning the current Covid vaccine is probably not going to cut it with the new Covid variants.
Depends how hard it hits the hubs. If 100,000 flyover country rednecks get it, RTO plans will go ahead. If SF, Charlotte, and Minneapolis go on lockdown WFH will continue.
Even the stupidest among us learned in high school biology that:
- vaccines don’t cure or prevent infections, but lessen symptoms
- variants arise and are invariably more contagious and weaker than the original strain
- masks do nothing to prevent infection to the wearer
- masks do nothing prevent infections to others
- certified PPE gear such as the N95 masks to protect the wearer from infection.
Class is out. Back to your regular indoctrination of fascism.
Omicron will be the excuse / narrative building tool to force people to boost. They are already laying the groundwork, 'theorizing' that it will result in second infections etc. So predictable.

There have been other "scary" variants that never spread.
