Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Lay offs today

Verizon lay offs today. They are actually giving employees two months to find some thing else internally versus the standard lay offs right before Thanksgiving.
A lot of Wireline impacted.

Wireless GN&T, was ready to retire anyway. Extremely easy gig with this WFH arrangement, but was waiting for something like this to happen. Told my boss months ago that if something like this were to happen, I'm his guy. Pleased as punch.

Got Riffed too. it stings, only been here a year. Came from blue and thought this was a better place. my group needs people but they decided to do it so I guess they "know" best. I learned a lot here in the short time I was here one year). Glad I had the experience. Worried as I am over 50 so ........ Still in denial as I have not yet moved to anger, not sure how soon that will be. Tightening my belt and hope my cash lasts until I can get something else. Hadn't yet saved enough to last a year without dipping into retirement funds (thank God I have a decent amount, not enough to take early retirement but much more than others), this time I am sure I will qualify for unemployment, didn't the last time, lol. All the best to the ones who are also "riffed"

Sorry to hear about these layoffs, hope you got decent severance. On the bright side, I keep hearing that this is the best job market ever, hope that turns out to be true.

My group picked up a riffed person in the past. I know lots of riffed people who got other jobs in the company. Of course you have to have been a valuable worker so that excludes some people.

Please, no one in other groups hires rif’ed people, HR probably tags you with a big red stop sign

I was RIF'ed today. Severance but I've only 4 years. Not a big surprise as it is Verizon, but still stings.

@fjx Great for you and glad you are getting a very nice severance package. When you say you volunteered, did you proactively go to your manager or HR? Asking for a friend.

Rarely are RIF'd employees considered for internal open positions. It happens, but is much like the Sasquatch, much talked about but rarely seen..............

Bottom of the stack rankings is still bottom of the stack rankings

Yep. As noted on other threads, I'm a non-union salaried employee in the GN&T Group and was ready to retire. I volunteered for the RIF a few weeks ago and was officially notified today. Off book 12/30. Oh Happy Day!
