Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Marketing and Communications lay off then hire more?

Why do these two groups cut people to only hire twice as many? That isn’t cutting head count that is adding too. What does BD actually do? I mean we dumped loser JR for him and he has done nothing. These two groups need to be gutted we need about half gone. They are dead weight extremely highly paid and there is no need. This is a bank why do we have a Facebook team, a Twitter team? Focus people it’s banking. I can also say 100% Charlie is not going anywhere not anytime soon as I see some posts saying. The board didn’t look for over a year for him just to dump him also no one else with a better reputation wants the job..

You should add up what BR is paying for all her hires. If you figure out what they do all day please let us know.

@4irl dude townhalls we’re just one example. Ge-z do I have to list every lame thing CC does? You guys just don’t get it. Okay here we go not only are the townhalls lame n staged. The outside communications with journalists through JL group is a joke and basically lies we spread to the public. Heck I will go so far as even say the quarterly financial results with JC from investment relations are filled with misrepresentations and fluff that even CNN money has called the releases laughable. So get real CC group is a joke you guys are lame and jimroweisaloser.

@jimroweistheworst you do realize that CC includes many that support external comms/media and have nothing to do with town halls, right?

I completely agree with your assessment of those staged, useless 'we're so great' nonsense events. I also agree that OS was thrown under the bus and the CC slide began as soon as he was gone. Many of us were begging for JS and the company to take responsibility for the retail mess and step aside. That alone could have helped right this ship years ago, but no...deflect and deny. Case study of what not to do in this type of situation.

But, WF as a whole is not my primary client (the brand, ultimately yes, but no one listens to those outside Enterprise Comms or things may be different). My clients are the hard working and mostly decent bankers out there serving clients. Enterprise communication is not the only jobs in CC...

@3nij What clients are saying CC or anyone in that group is doing a great job? CC is an internal group Wells Fargo is your only client and almost every employee (your client) thinks you guys are overpaid dead weight. What client has given you high praise? You guys slap each other on the back but those lame town halls you write the scripts for are just that lame. How about the fake questions you make up for people to ask at those events also lame. I was close associate to OS I was on hand when JR stabbed him in the back CC went down hill starting that day point blank period.

Corp Comm has essentially been halved, but not all through displacements. A lot resigned after the inept leadership came in and continued the tradition of mediocrity in management. I'm astounded that some CC employees are STILL here after essentially being demoted because they couldn't actually do the job or the leaders they supported felt they were receiving subpar comms support. Those people don't leave on their own because they know they're protected here. It is infuriating to witness while working your tail off, getting high praise from clients, but no promotion, pitiful raises - and those who can't actually do their jobs slide into promotion because they've rubbed elbows with the right people, only to get pulled off a client team months later because the client is unhappy with the level of work. Assigned to "special projects" they get to keep promotion title and pay. Ridiculous.

I can't wait to get out of this place. After 401k match and bonus, I'm gone.

What is scary is how d-mb you readers and posters are. The OP said 165k and BONUS so yes 165 alone in sf is low toss in that bonus and they make a quarter Million dollars a year to watch Facebook feed / Twitter sounds like a boat load to me!!

@1lqf imagine thinking a federal minimum wage of $7.25/hr is livable.

I agree. I wish there was some way to report them, file a class action lawsuit or something. It would be easy to prove - I’m sure there is an obvious pattern

“There are laws around laying off employees and then rehiring for the same positions.”

They get around this by rewriting the job description and then giving the new person the same work the old person was doing. This happens in marketing as a matter of course.

There are laws around laying off employees and then rehiring for the same positions.

“If you lay an employee off and rehire for the same position within six months, you are opening up your business to potential lawsuits.”

If you truly see this happening at Wells Fargo, I hope someone can prove it and will file a lawsuit.

Wells Fargo does not treat their customers right, has trouble following the law and seems incapable of getting itself right with regulators. Therefore, there is nothing that should lead us to believe they are doing things legally with layoffs and restructuring.

@ory+1dgh4Tw8 Not sure what you're really saying. But what Charlie said was correct. Like so many, they took what he said and twisted it.

We got rid of deadweight in the last round of layoffs. I would hate to think our people get targeted again for layoffs.

I've overhead plenty of hiring managers discussing willingness to pay for talent in SF.

If you have the skills you earn the bills.

Now I get it!

Charlie said “There is a limited pool of Black talent to choose from.”

What he meant to say was “There is a limited pool of Black talent to choose from who have been mentored by rotten leaders and who will blindly support my greed and self- serving decisions if I pay them enough money.”

@aho+1dgh4Tw8

Wrong. I'm not even in that functions, but I do hire in SF, NY, etc where there are deep pools of high priced, specialized talent.

Wells Fargo has always put their efforts, focus and money towards the wrong things. I have never gotten the reasoning behind it, but this current leadership team is no different. (Example of current leadership: putting billions of dollars towards company stock buybacks rather than technology, oversight, customer restitution, getting the bank out from under the asset cap etc) )

Tim Sloan did the same thing - spent money on expensive ad campaigns designed to give the illusion we had changed rather than investing in actual change.

Something is inherently wrong at Wells Fargo. New (replacement) Board members are chosen by old rotten board members, thus still a rotten BOD. Rotten BOD hires rotten CEO. Rotten CEO hires rotten friends. And the cycle of rot and greed continues…

you may be a "rocket scientist" but you might study up on labor markets and corporate reputation management. Just because you're smart in one discipline doesn't mean you know everything.

The 165K for a "manager" (who doesn't actually manage people) in SF for these skills is actually low relative to competition (which is not just in banking). And the reason the function is in SF - that's where the talent is.

WF team is not unusually large for a company of this size.

@ggy Actually I’am a rocket scientist the bank has a team of those too. I agree we need to be on those platforms but it does not take a team of 100 plus to deal with our FB and Twitter traffic. Added to the fact that both teams are based in SF the most expensive place to pay. You clearly don’t know what you are talking about but I will drop some actual facts for you. Just ONE “manager” with zero direct reports makes 165k base and gets a bonus. Now times that by 50 “managers” that’s in all their titles marketing program manager and it adds up. The math isn’t there to support the need. Again this is a BANK not a social company. We need to cut that 50 to 20 and allocate the money into banking investments.

We have a Facebook and Twitter team because our customers use it to contact the bank and we use it to keep customers informed. It is especially useful during disasters to communicate to customers. Not exactly a rocket scientist, are you?
