The timing of the next round of layoffs seems sleazy. Oh well. At least it'll extend our holiday weekend!

Fake news. No layoff on 10/12
Why not? Better than the day before.
As a former manager I was informed I was laying off an employee 5 days before the layoff date, and then the afternoon before I got told just kidding this round is cancelled, about 3 hours before I was supposed to set up the mystery meeting for the next day.
If you think your low level manager has anything to do with the layoff other than giving you your annual rating (subject to calibration) and actually telling you the bad news, you’re kidding yourself.
If you are working to pay for a roof over your head and food on your table there isn’t any good time for a layoff. Let’s just get the torture over with. On the positive side, having the holidays off would be nice.
It's fricking Columbus Day. Uprooting people's lives is kind of in keeping with that.
There are no good times for layoffs. Also, I doubt anyone cares to schedule around Columbus Day. Sort of a fake holiday. The stock exchanges sure don't care
Earnings announcements are for quarter close. The sheets are already created with all the financials. 2 days before announcement would make zero difference.
Great post OP
Don’t lose sight of the fact that most companies in the USA don’t recognize it as a holiday. It’s mainly for lazy bankers
Two days before earnings is my guess - numbers matter more than people.
And they hired me the day after July 4th. So sleazy!!
Let’s see. I was displaced two days before Xmas. Two years ago most of marketing was let go December 16th. They don’t care
Is it's even true. what difference does it make? You got one more freebie for Columbus Day.
Sorry about that. We’ll plan the next one the day before Thanksgiving
Huh, show us this so-called plan?
They (managers) know within a few months, I believe. They have to. A few days doesn't give them enough time to plan and cover the ones being let go.
check with the manager
The thing is that those who make the decisions already know, today, and probably for some days now, who will get tossed. It really sucks, doesn't it?
