New Job Titles

Not a new topic at all but the first time I heard any specifics. Apparently next month we ALL are getting new job titles that are effective Jan 2022. I had 2 separate meetings with my direct supervisors and this wasn’t even mentioned. Lack of transparent communication for sure.

Hoping we are all VPs of something.

They might as well call me Spot or Fido because they work me like a dog.

Let me make sure I got this straight.

The ENTIRE bank has to retitle jobs to fit a software program the HR system is being moved to?

They couldn't just have a piece of software where those titles are user enter/maintain-able?

Yeah, that sounds like a solid business decision by the current management team. What an id--t I am to have doubts about this going well.

I’m considered a Software Sr Engineer right now and i don’t do development work shrug maybe my new title will better reflect my actual job, but i tend to doubt it.

WF can call me whatever they want. I’m here for a paycheck to provide for my family. Nothing more.

I know you guys said “everyone” or “all” of us are getting new titles but not everyone has subjective titles. If you’re a teller, attorney, etc., these aren’t likely to be changed. Will these jobs just have an adjustment to their mid-points? What’s the intent? To level set wages or s—ew us over?

Crikey, HR even sent out an email today with this information. Maybe read the email? Near the bottom is a video link, pdf and faq all about the new job architecture.

Yes, new job titles are in the works. One reason is because we are getting a new HR system called Workday. Workday will launch Jan 2, 2022. This will be the new system of record and will replace a lot of apps like Time Tracker.

Last year's re-titling in TI resulted in significant impacts to compensation for some. I find it interesting that the video regarding the upcoming re-titling exercise specifically stated work responsibilities would not change and that this was not a staff reduction effort but no mention of impact to comp. When you look at the FAQ's though the compensation question is side-stepped. Pretty clear indicator that there will be impacts to midpoints and such.

@pxt most employees in Tech were re-titled last year. But because the tech LOB is so dysfunctional, they didn't coordinate it with this year's enterprise-wide changes, so we'll be changing titles AGAIN.

This is yet another tool in Charlie's tool box to encourage attrition, especially among the "old guard", aka anyone that started before Charlie. Certain favored groups will get cool sounding / marketable job titles that justify high MRPs, bonuses and encourage retention and employee satisfaction. Most of us, however, will get job titles that are euphemisms for "new hire pleeb", regardless of experience, which will be used as an excuse to maintain low MRPs/increases/bonuses for the foreseeable future. To add insult to injury, when you leave you get the privilege of putting on your resume that you worked at WF for X+ years and reached the level of "pleeb" after all that time.

The tech folks that survive the cuts will probably do well. Everyone else, enjoy your terminal 1% increases (always fun when inflation is through the roof!), cr---y job titles, and complete disregard for your valuable experience that actually gets things done around here.

I expect they'll time the retitle so they can say "Merit increases aren't happening this year because we have to recalibrate everyone's compensation with the retitle" so they can get away with screwing us over again.

Already gave my manager the hint that I'm looking for an exit, it led to some interesting developments in my favor.

Job titles, or corporate titles (AVP, VP, etc.)?

Either way, I have a really bad feeling about the next few months in terms of compensation changes.

Prepare to get stiffed.
