Retention Bonuses?

For those of you that were paid a retention bonus, how much was it, and what were the circumstances?

Do you have to explicitly threaten to leave? Or was it offered proactively for some reason?

Was the dollar amount simply presented to you as a yes/no, out did you have to pitch a dollar amount?

@OP, just get another job. You waste so much time trying to keep this job. Is it because you would never survive at another company without all of your friends and family?

12% of salary to stay until the end date given for a transition of a portfolio to another company. For me it was 10 months with a verbal guarantee I would then be trained in another role, which I was.

Retention bonus will not overwrite the location strategy. Nothing will. Hubs are the future.

Generally retention bonuses are rare.

You have to truly be a key player (which will cause other issues for your manager) or you have to have some DE&I related advantage as hiring/firing decisions are now being "viewed through that lens" as they keep saying.

Very interesting.. so if you’re in an LOB that’s paying retention bonus uses- are you eligible for a retention bonus even if you’re in a non hub location? What about if you’re a manager and have less than 7 (or is it 10 now?) direct reports? What if you were deemed as inconsistently meets due to forced ranking? Asking for so many friends!

No talk of retention bonuses in this corner of Risk. Folks still leaving by the short-bus load. Mid points on new openings are much higher than those currently in positions. If you left four months ago, it might be time to come back at a higher salary.

automatic retention bonuses paid if you stayed through mid-year and 2nd installment paid at year-end mine was $10K total. The $ was non-negotiable flat amount determined by your job level (i.e. consultant 2, consultant 3, consultant 4, consultant 5) since it applied to so many employees in our group.

in my experience, if they want to retain you, they'll match whatever offer you were given.
