Say Goodbye To Your Extra Thanksgiving Day Off

Just found out yesterday that we only get Thanksgiving and one other day off this year. Nice. Guess that what good ol’ Marv meant when he talked about “driving profitability through greater productivity.” Same thing is going to happen this Christmas too.

So, you’re paid for 48 hours but none of it is over time. Nice way to work around that isn’t it?

I suggest we all call out one day that week to make our feelings known. Uh, Friday looks like a good day…

So? How’s that denial going for everyone? Didn’t think it was actually happening right? Thought it was just a few stores. NOPE. You ALL lost that extra day off.

This Thanksgiving you can raise your glass to good ol’ Marv. He took that third day off away from you and actually had the gall to act like he was doing you a favor. Incredible.

I work for another retailer. Try being AT work on T-day. And Yes we too only get one day off. Its retail. How do you think all the other retailers work. In particular on T-day if you are open?

I’ve seen the new policy. It was actually sent AFTER the Thanksgiving schedule was written. Direction from corporate has gone out to the SSAs to review and change the schedule. Some of you out there who don’t think this is happening are about to get a rude awakening. I’d keep an eye on your schedule because they also changed their policy about not being able to change the schedule after it’s posted. They did that quite a while ago. Now they can change your schedule whenever they want.

I can’t wait to hear Marv’s “This is standard practice in the industry” excuse for scr*wing us over. I always love it when millionaires lecture their employees about business practices as a way of excusing rotten behavior.

You all know where this is going next right? There are retailers who now make their employees work on Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s only a matter of time boys and girls. They’re just trying to figure out how to do it, right after they take away our extra discount in December.

Lowe's has only ever closed 2 days a year; Thanksgiving and Christmas.

No surprise.

Haven't heard of this nonsense, but with Marvelous and Small Hands Joe, its about par for the course.

I worked for JCP so I can relate to what a clown Marvin Ellison is. This d-mb guy took a company that was already floundering and tried to turn it into a home improvement store. Mind you JCP had taken a 30+ year hiatus from selling appliances when Ellison reintroduced them. Appliance sales ended along with Ellison's JCP tenure.

None of this is actually productive. It is throwing sh-t at the wall to see what sticks.
