Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Job opportunity

Just got offered a sr. engineer position. Contemplating if I should take it or not. Wat you all think? The 401k match is ok but that too with waiting periods...

‘We have too many people skilled in legacy tech and do not need more dead weight.’

In the meantime, the Legacy tech is what allows your mouth to be fed so I’d be more respectful towards the dead weight that feeds you.

Well the offer isn't competitive w market kinda low ball. Recruiter says everyone gets same mid value or something and no sign in bonus either. Abt crypto - Buddy of mine works out of Phoenix and he says there is some compliance rule that u guys aren't allowed to be involved in crypto trading on Coinbase et al. Not exactly sure wat ever is the rule but not gonna sell my coins for this job, rather join other bank or some one.

@nkl Which restriction on crypto trading are you referring to?

The title does not mean squat. What will you be doing if here? Unless it is deploying GCP or Azure, run away. Everything else is tenuous. We have too many people skilled in legacy tech and do not need more dead weight.

Well may not take up on the offer. Hopeful to get offer from another bank in Virginia. Apart from all other issues seems there is a restriction on trading crypto thats a deal breaker

OP - can I be honest with you? Don't take it.

  1. The technology is rarely cutting edge; sure you will innovate but getting new stuff wont be part of it. Innovation means "creating new efficient ways within your means" at Wells Fargo and NOT industry innovation or tech innovation. So you may get bored.
  2. the NDA and technology restricting any sort of disclosure of what you did can bite you - A lot of recruiters and hiring managers want to see pics and details (externally)- WF doesn't allow any sharing of any of this. This sets you to stay (therefore also not partake in a wage market).
  3. more and more non bank essential practices are offshoring or divesting/selling off- so how sure are you that this gig isn't next in line? How do I know? I fell victim to that a few times in even less years.
  4. WF doesn't pay the best for its engineers.

Ya they said 401k won't kick in till next year and something that 3 years within that time if I leave or company let me go then the the accumulated 401k contribution, they will keep it. Is that normal

Curiosity………They are changing bonuses to be flexible and without a target. What were you told for bonus ranges or opportunities?

You won’t get the 401K match for a while with all of the waiting periods, like you said. How do you feel about the job itself and the manager? Should definitely factor in your potential job satisfaction/stress in this role. Make sure you like the manager.

If you're already with WF and this opportunity is a move from somewhere else within the company, then take it.

If you're NOT currently with WF and are unemployed, then take it just for the money - but keep your job hunt active because you'll do better with whatever the next opportunity is.

If you are currently employed somewhere else and are looking from a change from THAT, then I'd suggest you pass on WF and keep looking.
