I’ve only been here a little over half a year, but enough to see what kind of company it is. A colleague told me that not being here for a long time means nothing and that I can also be RIFed. Is it possible that even employees who are relatively new here can be shown the door?

Anyone at anytime. Yes I’ve seen it happen after 1 month. The stores don’t know what is going to happen.

Yes, it’s possible.
There is no rule you won't be but they just got the permission o hire your for some reason presumably so unless the reason they hired you changed then you are probably fine.
It should not surprise you with the changes that have taken place recently.

It’s not out of the question but if your asking yourself that after only 6 months then it’s probably better off looking for a new job. It surprises me someone so new would even be pursuing this message board.
