Typical millennial. Some of us had to work for what they got. You might want to try it some time.

Prepare to be cut loose at a certain age too. Reality is gonna be a bi--h for you.

@3zml+1dEFLLZd the older generations of today are a sad cry from their parents. Those in The Greatest Generation were proud to see their Boomer kids reach beyond the limitations of their own lives and achievements.

Boomers just want to punish all who came after them not to have it better. They're pi---d when they don't make it into the 1-5% of wealthiest and, even though quite well off, are angry they're in the same group who is NOT the top. From there all they can do is find ways to make themselves feel better that they are top of the lower classes instead of a member of the elite.

And if all their scheming, back stabbing and other underhanded tactics to get ahead at any cost didn't get them to the elite class you can bet for damn sure they won't support ways for people to have an easier time in life than they had for fear that it would propel THEM ahead, past the paltry achievements of being top of the less than elite class.

Times have changed for all except for whose time was not what they planned it would be.

@3gnh+1dEFLLZd Grow up and work. No more handouts for you. Time to put on your big boy pants and go to work. Move out from hope and step into independence. Your parents probably have plans to remodel your basement bedroom.

@2qdp expresses the typical Great/Silent/Boomer hatred of their fellow humans with the classic "I suffered a sh---y life, so you should too"

Fu-k off.

Sorry, this site is now about the vaccine and how onerous it is to actually commute to work. As a 2 hour a day (to and back) commuter for 40 years I find it amusing that the healthy younguns can’t possibly do this, among many other things as well.

I’m in marketing. I have never had a manager who had their own deliverables as well as managing people. Maybe if they did I could have a little respect for them, but all I ever see them do is sit in meetings and do reviews a couple of times a year. And that’s when they’re not just plain missing in action.

Thank you, @1dwb+1dEFLLZd. Very well said. During my near 20 years at the bank, I've never had managers whose sole job was to manage. All of my managers have been what I call working managers, almost like individual contributors who also managed people. What's happened is those particular folks are suddenly saddled with, say, 10 directs instead of maybe 3 -- all the while expected to continue performing their prior duties AND experiencing a compensation reduction.

@efp+1dEFLLZd totally agree managing 10 should not be an issue. Problem here is that managers are not only managers. All the managers I've had here (IT) have a job along with being a manager.

This leads to employee development, coaching and other manager duties taking a back seat to whatever work the manager has on their plate. This is clearly reflected in the survey results (at least in my area). And, sure, self-directed people don't need a manager much but there aren't a lot of them and by self-directing your career you can quickly find yourself out of step with bigger picture.

My manager works really hard. Has fires burning constantly. Witnessing this first hand has made one thing clear to me - get out of WF if you want to move into a management position.

Managing 10 people isn't abnormal and shouldn't affect raise or bonus in an upward motion - but it's unfortunate they got a decrease.

Actually, that was 10 directs -- not 7. 3 directs to 10 directs. I am not kidding.

"If you were managing less than 7, you should have been a supervisor and not a manager."

Perhaps, but what happened with my manager is that he/she (I won't reveal gender) had a manager title with 3 directs and was moved earlier this year to 7 directs thanks to spans and layers but had a ridiculous bonus reduction with no raise due to job remappings.

@tcy+1dEFLLZd, thank you. I love this!

"I got Sharfed" could mean you got deemed redundant (laid off), had your overall compensation reduced, got moved to a hub an hour from your house where none of your coworkers are located, got to manage 7+ directs instead of 3, etc. with no raise, etc., etc...
