Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Let's all quit or unionize!!

EVERYONE JUST WALK OUT!! What you forget is there is safety in numbers. You need to get enough people to call in sick for a few days or quit. But you will need enough people so it makes national news to embarrass Charlie. Then he will do the dog and pony show with apologies and what not and this stops. Or form a union like Santander Bank did. Also, write in to your congress rep. Elizabeth Warren has been chomping at the bit to break them up. Here are your choices: GET LAID OFF, UNIONIZE or QUIT.

Hey @1tvc+1d9cxzlU, lets talk about tech, where IT people will be on call 24/7, where long hours are the standard.

And where we have zero protection against offshoring now.

So I'm not sure what you're talking about at all.

I've worked 36 hours shifts. I've been told that I'm required to have high speed internet and that the company helping pay the bill would lead to people "feeling entitled".

Like the company is entitled to use my connection?

And entitled to using my phone for support?

A job where burnout happens around every 10 years for most tech folks.

Maybe a three or four day work week would actually improve productivity, but few companies will look into the research.

I've worked Thanksgiving and New Years and Christmas and birthdays and hundreds of weekends.

Some of these may not seem like a big deal, but it's how companies take advantage of employees.

Tech workers were talking about unionizing back in the late 90's but because of the dot com bubble so many were making windfall money on stock options the effort died.

Banks aren't even the worst offenders when it comes to abusing IT people, but at the bank I'm now at I talk to coworkers everyday who are planning on leaving because of burnout, not because of the work, because of the workload and management abuses.

When I was a kid I worked alongside union people in LA and they were getting 3x the money I was making and a shop steward assigned them work, making sure no one was overloaded, and the work was evenly spread out to keep everyone employed.

Good for them, they were making enough money to afford a house for their family, a pension, and a vacation every year with the kids.

Union pay supported half the country 50 years ago, and since then banks and corporations have siphoned off the savings of the middle class all while the middle class workers have higher and higher levels of productivity.

A union makes sense in 2021 if it's a 21st century union.

I also know no one here is going to organize a union, so you don't need to worry.

Unions made sense during the Industrial Revolution when work conditions were horrible and jobs paid piecemeal, kids worked, etc. Most employee protections are covered under employment law, the EEOC, OSHA, FMLA, etc, so that leaves what, wages? No thanks, the marketplace is a better equalizer (quit for better pay). Benefits? Nope. Collective bargaining that ignores the individual and de-incentives personal growth - another no-way. It will have a reverse effect, expediting outsourcing of jobs overseas.

Great idea, OP, have you contact a union organizer to find out how to get started?

It really is a good idea, but just throwing it out there to make yourself feel good does no one any good.

I know you have an internet connection, I can read your post.

So do a search and find someone to talk to, organizing a union is a big task.

Big rewards, too.

Most people don't remember a world where 30 percent of American jobs were union, but those were the good old days everyone says they want to get back to.

Yes, this is the only way. Nobody is listening to us. Charlie needs to go. We have to band together. Go to the media. Write EW. Save our jobs and stop Charlie's rampage!

in my position i do over 2x production of the average "meets" employee. Union would not help me sorry pal. This would only benefit the slackjawed id--t coughing over my neighborhood wall to get a higher increase.

No, some of us have worked in unions and know how cr---y they can be. When perks and benefits are based on the number of years you’ve been around, rather than qualifications or hard work, it promotes laziness.

The only people against unionizing are those who think their "success" has to come at other people's expense.

Stop being a sh---y human being.

Yes start to unionize. Then see how many of those previously full time retail and call center jobs suddenly become 30 hour jobs so the company doesn’t have to pay out various benefits.

The only people that want to unionize are the underachievers looking to get subsidized by the high performing employees.

Hey OP…why don’t you send out a company wide email tomorrow morning with all the details on unionizing and where to sign up? Heck, you might even get to be the Union Steward.

Unionization is always promoted during times of high stress. Socialism (unionization is a aspect of socialism) can fix short term , but only sometimes. It does NOT fix long term. I will negotiate MY own salary. Thank you very much. Not interested in the WARES you are selling.

I agree, the only way they will understand is by it effecting the their bottom line. We need to get organized. The only thing they beleive in is Profit over People.

You left out one other option: Find a job in a different company.

@OP are you really this much of a brain dead mo--n. About once a month you or someone comes on here with this genius plan to walk out, or unionize. You need to understand that the C-Suite does not give a sh-t about you, or anyone one else working here.

But hey - maybe it work THIS time.... lol
