Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Benefits at Oracle

I keep hearing here that the benes at O are so good that people stay for them, even with no salary increases.

Just want to point out that lots of other tech companies have benefits that match or exceed Oracle: unlimited vacay, 100% paid medical, eye popping 401k match etc AND regular raises, bonuses, career growth assistance, sabbaticals, executive training, etc. Along with a non-toxic work environment, latest tech, modern WFH policies and more.

Never stop working on yourself or your career. The next time you get a message from another company’s recruiter, hear them out. Ask some questions. Keep your eye on the ball.

This is not limited to the medical and insurance benefits, but rather to the overall benefit of working here. We have gone from being a group of dedicated hungry entrepreneurs, to becoming part of a collective Borg. It is just a job where we are only a commodity on a spreadsheet. Fill in the paperwork so that someone above can pretend that it is all under control. Just jam in as much certified knowledge as you can, and spew it out to as many customers as you plan, until they too are ‘consumed!’

And they wonder why people are leaving.

Benefits have gone downhill. People who don’t want to make the effort to move tell themselves that they are good. It’s just denial to avoid having to do anything.

Who are your providers? My vision and dental providers have said nothing but admiring things about my benefits.

As someone who uses vacation time frequently through the year and is skirting a negative vacation balance, that's actually an awesome benefit. One size does not fit all, y'all.

I just want to echo what @1tkf+1cjoqbPI said.

"Unlimited vacation has only one purpose and that's to not pay you accrued leave balance when you leave."

Totally agree. Unlimited vacation befits the employer, not the employee because the employer does not have to pay-out your accrued vacation balance when you leave. (resign, quit, retire, get RIF'd, whatever). Unlimited vacation is one of the biggest scam ever. This idea of "unlimited vacation" has been sold to you and me as a great "benefit" but the reality is that it mostly benefits the employer because the company doesn't have to pay-out accrued-vacation balances when people leave.

Staying for great benefits is something someone says to not admit to themselves they hate their job and would work anywhere Oracle. I know. I’ve said it and I don’t have a spouse or children. Oracle is terrible. Mgmt worst around.

Well, yes. You exchange the ability to accrue vacation for the ability to not worry if you have enough days for that vacation, bereavement, sick, etc thing that comes up. They could have restricted accruals or do a use it or lose it. UNLIMITED VACATION IS A GOOD BENEFIT. You all just work for a lousy company that can make a sh|t sandwich from a side of beef.

Unlimited vacation has only one purpose and that's not to pay you accrued leave balance once you leave of get fired. Of course this important part is never mentioned and people think it's some kind of benefit while in reality it always plays in favor of employer.

Unlimited PTO works fine where I am. Just like everything, it depends on the integrity of the organization you work for.
