@foh You don't have a clue. My wife is a lawyer and she just laughed at your post. $2000 to $4000 for representation? That's just to get in the door. Good luck.

Everyone hates lawyers until you need one.

Then everyone complains about the cost.

A years salary is around 80,0000 around here pre-tax.

You might get 40,000 pre-tax if you sign your rights away not to sue.

Or, spend 3-4000$ and get the full 80,000 (or more).

YOU HAVE LEVERAGE - the only thing this bank cares about is stonk price. A lawsuit hurts the stonk price (its an expense, plus its bad public relations, plus its messy (you can do discovery on executives and air out some dirty laundry), etc etc

Spend the $ and get the lawyer.

Normal.

You can take the not a lawyer loud mouth's advice and lawyer up if you want to, but WF doesn't do anything that's not vetted by their lawyers, and HR is trained on firing people legally.

Not that you might not have a case, like the loud mouth poster below, I am not a lawyer, either.

But I was a manager who had to fire people sometimes, and while I didn't like that part of the job, I do know a little more than the loud mouth who's not a lawyer below.

you are a protected class (over 40 years old).

Lawyer up ASAP.

Sign nothing.

Sleep sound tonite, and tomorrow morning your only job is to get representation.
Lawyer might cost you 2000-4000$ but you will likely get more than the pathetic 6mos of severance.

Happens to a lot of people, its nothing against you - time to make sure your termination was:
a) legal
b) not biased
c) properly compensated.

The LAST thing this bank wants is another legal battle - you have TONS of leverage.

Google "Age Discrimination Department of Labor"

Also contact your DC Representative and your DC Senator.

Let them know this bank sent your job to India.

Good luck!

Take a little while to process the “good news”. And from a previous post, remember these sage words, “ Congratulations and please remember this is not a reflection on you or your performance-it’s a reflection on the company and bad management decisions. They don’t deserve you and everyone I know has ended up in a better situation after the lay off. Good luck!!”

I was laid off once here and it was fantastic. I had a horrible boss that would keep me at work till 10-11pm. I couldn't sleep at night and was always dreaming of excel problems. I got the package and found another job 2mo later paying 40% more and could sleep again. The other great things were they called me the next year and paid my bonus. Its also setup so you can collect unemployment at the same time. The year i got laid off i made way more than any of my prior years.

60 days notice + 40 weeks at full pay and benefits to recharge and take your time finding the best fit for your next chapter? Consider it a blessing and believe that your best is yet to come!

Congrats! Definitely jealous of your good fortune? I know it’s a weird thing to say, but I wouldn’t wish the constant mind games of Wells Fargo on my worst enemy.

Now they just need to get around to front line call monitoring in Auto. We’re virtually tripping over each other in redundancy.

In your shoes I’d be happy with a 40 week severance. My guess is that two weeks per year is what they’ll be going after next for the people trying to just hang on until retirement

Talk to an attorney. Don't agree or sign anything. It's worth the money to hire a good lawyer after 20 years. You need to get what you are rightfully owed.

Best wishes.

I was laid off in December. My manager told me and it was a few days before I got the email with docs to electronically sign then a few days after that I got stuff in the regular postal mail.
Congratulations and please remember this is not a reflection on you or your performance-it’s a reflection on the company and bad management decisions. They don’t deserve you and everyone I know has ended up in a better situation after the lay off. Good luck!!

our HR dept does not have the resources to have on layoff calls; it's the responsibility of the manager. Why would you want HR? What do you think they would do for you differently? Your manager is basically reading from a script; you can see the details of the severance in the benefits book - its called "salary continuation"

First off, CONGRATULATIONS! You will get a severance which means receiving pay while mentally resetting and then getting back into job searching.

I was laid off in 2015 and HR was present during the meeting. I did not take enough time away to enjoy my severance before I was rehired back in. Unfortunately the severance goes away at that point.

I have heard that HR is stretched too thin and are no longer attending the layoff calls.

I know it may not feel like this now, but this can be the biggest gift ever. My advice is to take the severance, mentally reset and look elsewhere. If you are getting close to retirement, you can extend your severance time out by taking a STAR position.

In the past couple of years, I had hoped for a layoff. I recently resigned due to overloaded of projects, spending most nights working, no support from leadership, no advancement opportunities and feeling unappreciated. I was unhappy and decided the best choice was to quit. Fortunately I can do so even without a job lined up and it's been the best decision ever!

Sorry to hear. It's hard. The h/r rep isn't around when it happens. It's just you and your manager. Normal.
The package should be emailed to you within 24 hours.
When the shock wears off, you'll experience a bunch of emotions.
My best to you. {Hugs}.

Same Here, never in any other organization has HR not been involved in the discussions as well as not known what the severance was at the time of separation.

All very normal, yes. Also common for the package not to be received in 24-48, so even that is a cr-p shoot.
