Slightly off topic and apologies to folks in advance but, when someone hands in their 2 weeks notice, does Oracle usually make the employee work their notice ?

Says the HR rat who hasn’t done honest work their whole life. You’re a complete waste.

If your are paid then you should be made to work. Of you were a useless engine to begin with then you should be terminated the day of notice and paid nothing extra.
I recently gave my notice. My manager was good, told him that I need to take 2 weeks off and a 2 week notice. Transitioned work in couple of days. Taking paid leave for rest of the time. I check slack couple of times a day to see if anyone pings me - no one does.
I gave same day notice.
So did I. Said "Bye" and walked out the door. Scumbag, lying management. F them
No. They usually ask you to leave by the end of the day. They will not pay through your notice period, only unused vacation.
"It Depends, especially on your manager. Not at Oracle, I gave two weeks notice, they asked me to do three. I foolishly compiled, they began to pile on the work like I was a pack mule."
That figures. Effing manager clowns.
It Depends, especially on your manager. Not at Oracle, I gave two weeks notice, they asked me to do three. I foolishly compiled, they began to pile on the work like I was a pack mule. After a week of that, I stopped working all together and left after two. Another company, again, not Oracle, I gave two weeks. Manager asked me to do a transfer of information and access and after a week, he thanked me for everything and told me to take next week off but come in the last day to process out. When I came in, I was greeted wit ha little going away party, I was given a nice watch by my entire group and by noon I was out the door.
Re: employment contracts.
You are forgetting that managers above a certain level and professionals employed in countries other than the US are likely to have some sort of written contract.
We Americans grow up, work and retire (if possible) in an employment at will work environment. So the next time you want to ask why “they” have that, turn the question around to “Why don’t we have that?”
I always understood Oracle to be hire and fire at will.
I have not seen any employment contract at Oracle.
LOL employment contract.
I had to give notice as per my employment contract of 5 weeks, how is it you have choice?
Depend on where you are going.
I gave same day notice.
Depends on the job role and manager, but typically no.
