Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Zero job growth in IT doesn't mean there aren't jobs available. Learning to code is a valuable skill. IT infrastructure jobs are decreasing while developer jobs are increasing.

Large teams of server admins, network admins, etc are no longer needed with cloud environments.

There is a seismic change going on in the IT world and many many people will either need to retool their skills or find themselves looking for a new career.

It's a nice thought that if you're better than offshore than you'll be ok, but not really accurate. It's not a meritocracy, and it's pretty clear lower cost is chosen over higher quality whenever possible.

Additionally agile lowers the bar even further.

That said, I'm a progressive person who also believes that those in other countries should have opportunities too. This is often in conflict with my belief that companies like WFC should employ people in the same country where there customers are located. I guess this is an old fashioned belief at this point though.

Be better than the offshore folks and you'll be fine.

If you're worried it means you know you may not be.

BTW, people in other countries deserve to work and have a good life just as much as we do.

The system is the problem, offshoring is a symptom.

What are you talking about, a computer science degree is the bo-b. Its the fastest way to working with a dozen Indians and seeing your wages go lower yearly as management threatens you non stop. Balakrishnan and Chakrabarti are always on standby to replace you for 1/8th your wage.
