Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

This is going to work out

The whole RTO issue is not that negative in my book. People who can't imagine coming back to the office - and I know there are plenty who can't or don't want to do it for valid reasons - will leave WFC at a time when it is easier than ever to find a remote job. Those of us who don't mind returning will be safer from layoffs because a sizable number of people will leave on their own. It might not be ideal, but it's not all doom and gloom either.

I really do not understand all this craziness over layoffs. Why are people posting here like this is something new that we should not have to deal with. That is how this business survives. Ramp up....Ramp Down....Ramp Up....Ramp Down. Reminder, it's a business not a charity. If you can't handle the possibility of something that regularly happens, then maybe you need a different line of work. Learn a trade or even better start your own business and see how you would actually handle some tough decisions about your own employees.
So tired of this "woe is me" and "you owe me" cr-p everywhere you turn. Maybe grow up and take control of your own path.

I really don't think it will 'work out'. I think the long term vision of the higher ups is to have a "bank" that has a couple thousand employees, probably all located in 2 hubs, and largely tech people that simply manage automated processes. Everything customer facing will be online. There will be some compliance folks around to meet requirements, but otherwise it'll be barebones all the way around. HR and anything else that can't be automated will be contracted out. 200k may be the short term goal, but the long term goal is more like 2k.

It will be nice to come back into the office and use the meditation room again! I used to go there 3-4 times a day.

Sorry, you will not be safer from layoffs if you go into the office. @ghf+1c5sQd72 is correct. That is not how things work and never has.

On why some folks want to continue WFH,

I have been 100% remote since 200x when WF kicked me out. I have set up my office and purchased my desk, chair, monitors, and all the other things WF would not cover. It has made me more productive, more comfortable, and they have gotten tons of extra hours from me being a remote worker. The trade off-is a better work-life balance. It allows me to save time and mades it easier scheduling personal activities, appointments, and getting things done. I have saved time on commuting, saved the cost of vehicle ownership ( Insurance, maint, gas, etc), saved $$ on parking, coffee, lunch, and all those costs that are associated to working in the office. I have based my work-life balance around this model.

My team is spread out around the country. Since then, I have had multiple reorgs to support this model. We do not interface with other teams to get work done. Processes have even changed within my work areas to take advantage of these extra-flex hours due to the team not needing the traditional office hours and experience.

Doing an about face on this model will alter the way I do my work. My manager is aware and agrees that the bank is going to experince a very large drop in productivity. The big issue personally is that I will need to purchase a vehicle. Then commute 45 min each way to get to and from the office dealing with traffic. For what? So I can sit at a neighborhood area, on the phone doing my work, interacting with nobody and listening to their work life world while I do mine? How is that better than WFH.

With Charlie there will always be the threat of layoffs, it's how he operates.

You still won't be safe from layoffs because that's not how it works.
