Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Just stop whining already

I said it before and I'll say it again - if the company realizes that your job can be done remotely fully and indefinitely there is nothing stopping them from outsourcing it as soon as possible. You're ensuring your own separation from WFC by stubbornly advocating for work from home.

Yes, management can required what they'd like in regards to WFH or on-site. Many tenured employees who have been working remotely for YEARS are having a big issue as they will be let go simply because they do not live near a hub and cannot afford the relocation costs, even if they wanted to relocate. And, others have roles which required non-traditional hours (i.e. working with International partners). In these positions when you are told you must work on-site, yet have a call with Hong Kong at 11PM ET this can be an issue. Being told you can WFH "sometimes" using your own equipment but still have to go to a hub location 8-5. Isn't effective for some jobs. So, rather than fight it, many of us (with 10/15/20+ years) in these types of situations are simply looking to leave the firm. Not worth getting all bunched up about it. Charlie isn't going to change his mind. Especially in light of his mentor at JPM recently making vaccine reporting mandatory and everyone having to come back to work. Just watch BOA and JPM. What they do, we will do. Best thing people can do is update their resumes, chalk up the experience and take their expertise elsewhere.

Some of us are "whining" because everything that's happening can be traced back to mismanagement that occurred years ago, and the company we used to love has turned into something unrecognizable.

The OP is clueless about remote work. The pandemic accelerated the trends of remote work to shift some jobs to "work from home". That does not mean remote work is a simple either/or, all-or-nothing, or a binary choice between WFH and outsourcing a particular job.

There is certainly plenty of whining on this site mixed among the legitimate issues. And just stop with the "herp derp, you're whining about whining!" nonsense. There's a clear difference between petulant whining and someone pointing out annoying whiny behavior.

wf isn't underperforming because we won't allow work from home. almost all the big banks and a number of other large companies such as apple want their folks in the office, they are all doing just fine. what amazes me is that I feel they still don't have a fully realized plan for how to get people back. how long has it been?

While the OP might be right with leaderships overall attitude towards remote work that doesn’t make it right. It’s 2021, time to get with the times. This old school mindset and approach to people and work is one more reason why WF is significantly underperforming in being competitive as an employer.
