Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Has anyone told

Has anyone told our executives that banking is no longer a dream job? I mean seriously. The days of your branch banker being a pillar of financial success and folks bragging about working for a financial institution are long gone.
This new leadership team is so antiquated. They’re creating unrealistic metrics, hub location strategies and constant anxiety among the workforce as though the bank has leverage. Real young talent is looking to get into the medical or technology industry with the stragglers electing for a financial services career path. Smart banks are realizing this and trying to create a positive work environment. One where your employees are so comfortable that they look up and 5 years have gone by. Wells is literally doing the opposite of that in every business line. Someone’s got to tell these folks the Wells Fargo brand name and a few extra dollars isn’t going to be enough to overcome how they’re treating people. They’re laying off the friends, mothers, fathers, uncles, aunts and so on of the talent they’re looking to recruit. Sounds like hustling backwards to me

When was a branch banker ever viewed as being a pillar of financial success? And who but top level Sr Mgr ever bragged about working for a financial institution?

That era never happened in anyone here’s lifetime.

@rjk the demographics have changed so much since then as has the leadership. Branch team members were being pressured at a time where banning, specifically at Wells, still had some prestige. The whole reason you could pressure branch team members was the idea that if you don’t do this someone else will take your place.
There’s no such leverage anymore so you’d think the approach would change. Young millennials/Gen Z are the “you can be what you want to be when you grow up” generation. Banking doesn’t exactly fit into that category and you want to alienate the few that wouldn’t mind it as a career path?

But you’re right. They don’t care. They’re just worried about hitting targets to receive their bonuses.

You're thinking too logically. What makes you think they want employees to be "comfortable?!" If they wanted employees to be "comfortable" thousands of branch bankers (former) wouldn't have been bullied, badgered and pressured for years to meet unrealistic sales quotes for deposit account opening which wrecked the lives and careers of thousands of bankers and customers (credit scores).

So what makes you think they want people to be comfortable now?! I'm not saying all this to be condescending, but clearly you haven't studied your history enough on this place.

I don't think the goal is to have anyone here be comfortable. Quite the opposite.
