Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

How are you preparing for it?

I'll be honest, quitting is not something I can afford to do right now and I doubt I could find a remote job that pays close to what I make right now so there wouldn't be a point. Being stuck here, I'm not sure how I'm going to get used to having to go to the office again if I have to after more than a year of living the good life. Just thinking about having to spend more than two hours a day on the commute is making me physically sick. How are people dealing with this?

I prepared by paying off my debt, paying cash for vehicle, saving up. No worries here. The Joneses are broke as a joke, I'm not!

You are making a lot of assumptions about other jobs and their trade offs. Strongly suggest you put the work in to verify.

I’m one of the boomerang employees, a job I wasn’t sure I wanted so I quoted them something I thought was probably outrageous. Turns out I misjudged either the market or the hiring manager, who paid above what I asked for and got work quality from me that I didn’t know I was capable of. Mine was 33%, I could see a 50% raise for a promotion, maybe. Amazon in particular has a weird pay structure once you roll in the signing bonus and stock

Can you adjust your hours to be in earlier or later? Work 4:10’s? The last time I had to commute there were windows of opportunity where shifting my workday by as little as 15 minutes could shave 30 minutes off one-way commute times. I’m assuming you are speaking to TOTAL commute time and not just one way.

Re: the many posts I see about people leaving and making 150-175-200% of what they were here make me laugh. If that is even remotely true they lost so much working here. What could possibly make a person undervalue themselves so much that they would knowingly accept a “lowball” offer with any company? So much opportunity cost and lost wages accepting a low salary. If they really mean they used the position at Wells to gain experience and up-skill to leave that is a totally different situation. I still question the increase %’s, they must be low wage earners at their first jobs.

The people who want to work from home are the people the Company doesn’t want back.

I got a new job and almost doubled my pay; pay here sucks, maybe if you live in the south where pay is lower it is ok, but where i live we call this low balling employees pay.

If I were you I would update my skills and then find a new role. I can tell you in tech, anyone with Cloud (Real Cloud, not cloud foundry or vmware or on prem) will be in demand, automation skills and those areas. I havent seen any job asking for someone to work in an office in this area of tech. Perhaps you have older skills?
