Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Anxious

Rationally I know it doesn't do any good to worry about getting laid off. There are solid steps to take to be prepared (networking, resume, brush up on marketable skills). But I'm in my 50s and have been here a long time. My group most likely will (and probably should for the sake of efficiency) be cut. I like the work, coworkers are fine, and I am filled with dread and anxiety about the future. I don't have the energy to get excited about a career change. The delay in knowing whether or not we're going to displaced makes it worse. Rip off the band-aid!

Some days I'm anxious that I'll be laid off, and some days I'm worried that I won't be.

OP, your post could as well have been written by me. All of your points apply to my situation, and I’m hating it. Especially the being over 50 part. Trying to force myself to not look at this site, but since there’s no transparency from within the company, sources like this one are the only way to keep your ear to the ground. At least you know you’re not alone.

Just ride it out the best of your ability. I have no idea what is coming for me this week or next but definitely something thing will happen that will impact my team at a minimum if not me directly.

Raising anxiety is their goal... people will act on it and maybe fulfill Charlies goal of reducing head count without severance packages. Ask and C suite about their packages... get a nice severance no matter what in most cases.

Right now is a great time to

  1. Start working on your resume while the current work you perform is fresh on your mind.
  2. Create/update your linkedin profile while you still have contact info for the people you work with and partner with.

It stinks, I’m sorry the stress is wearing you out. I’m in the same boat. Have you started looking? It’s a lot of work, but in some ways the hardest part is getting started. I found that once I started to see the different opportunities out there — companies with better cultures and without constant layoffs. — it became more fun. Light at the end of the tunnel etc.

It is concerning companies do this to their workers, drive a lot of fear on purpose. This is a control tactic, don't fall prey to it. Just have a plan in place you can execute on, so wont matter if you work here or not.

Always have another option you can shift right into easily, or in a month or two. Don't let the uneducated people here control you with fear tactics.
