Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I'm about ready to accept any job

My brother-in-law works as a manager in a warehouse. His pay is decent, his hours are set, and most importantly he seems happy. It's not glamorous work, but he provides for his family and gets to lead a good life without having to worry or think about work 24/7. Still, some people in our family look down on him and look up to me because I have a 'prestigious' banking job (don't make me laugh) that brings in good money. They know my job is stressful, there is no job security, I often have to work overtime and on the weekends, but that doesn't seem to matter. Why is it that we look down on some jobs when the goal of all is the same: to provide for yourself and your family? I'm at the point where I'd give up my job here and accept anything just to get some semblance of a normal life.

Banking is the modern sweatshop. Anyone who views these jobs as prestigious is very disconnected from reality.

Blue collar jobs like hvac and electricians are in demand. They make over 100k a year .

A job is a job regardless of what field it’s in. We all are working to make someone else rich.

My brother doesn't speak to me because he doesn't feel like I am professional enough.

Many of us feel the same.

The kind of people who judge their family members based on how “prestigious” their jobs are are not worth thinking about.

They don’t care about you. They care about boasting to their friends about “my son the banker”. (Or brother - or whatever).

Do what makes you happy.
