No Layoffs of Business Consultants

Large number (12,000) of garbage waste - 70% fit for nothing. Why management not cleaning up this area?

The one I work with is fantastic. She fills in for engineers in technical meetings when we are overwhelmed with conflicts. I have little doubt with a couple days of training she could do 90% of my job.

I am one of these garbage waste consultants OP and commenters speak of and I mostly agree with a lot of the points made. I often wonder what value I bring though I a for sure an SME compared to my counterparts and I am always willing to step in and help. I'm not lazy like so many of the people I work with, and I have a strong desire to learn.

But some thoughts; wtf do some if you technologist even do? Infrastructure engineers know nothing but recycling servers...good job you can Google some Linux commands. You can't even figure out a simple CX. You can't search logs...most of you are so full of yourself but you yourselves are useless. This creates an environment where I can not learn, grow, contribute and add more value than I do now... because some of you douches don't want to join meetings 😃.

Hope the packages are nice tomorrow.

Our local person provides no value. They’ve started scheduling these calls with them that are a total waste of time. It’s all over Wells Fargo though with support employees making up work that makes them look important

Agree, Entire Business Process can be easily automatable. No need of manual business consultants/Managers/Tech Analysts/Product Owners etc., roles. Business Process Automation technology to automate business processes or different business workflows is very successfully implemented in Banking and other IT industries.

I was retitled away from a business consultant.

If it wasn't for just how horribly WF lowballs their technology hires my job could easily be automated away. However, I remain employed because I'm an expert at helping those incompetent technologists get the support they need when their cr-p fails.

So ironic that they complain about us when they're the reason we exist.

I imagine there are good ones, but every conversation I've had with one usually includes them saying "help me out here, I'm not too familiar with this area/system/etc"

It's very possible that they were newer and still learning their roles. It's reasonable to have some time to learn. In time, they could be very instrumental to the business. I just haven't come across one in my area that is fully up to speed.

I am suprised to hear one is a manager. They are individual contributors at wells fargo with no directs.

They are supposed to be the liaisons between business and tech. By definition they possess a little knowledge in both worlds and should function as facilitators.

The critique of them being secretaries is only partly with merit. They have to annotate the interactions they facilitate, but that shouldnt be their primary job but in this chaotic environment where tech is pushing back hard to preserve an illusion of necessity to preserve thier jobs by not sharing. These people have defaulted to documenting the breakdown of communication and are thus perceived as "secretaries"

I agree its an overstaffed discipline, but they are the grease in the wheels of agile, done right and will eventually transition to product owners.

That clarity in role will help a great deal

That's ok, our "tech" people don't have "technical skills" either!

Business Consultants are a joke. Our "manager" is one. She doesn't manage at all. Misses our 1:1s all the time and is totally irritated is we ask a question. Worst "manager" ever. What the h*ll do BCs do all day???

Six figure glorified secretaries.

They have no technical skills, they don't manage people, and they rarely have true SME status on any topic. They just schedule meetings, take notes, act as messenger.

Yet Wells keeps an army of them on staff.

It won't last forever though. Eventually someone will wake up.
