Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Laid off June 2017 and doing great

I was laid off June of 2017 and quickly found a job at MongoDB... before the IPO. 4 years later my fully vested options are worth over 1 million.

Getting laid off from Oracle was the 2nd best thing that happened in my career. I was coasting on ancient technology, my knowledge of the Oracle RDBMS. I was comfortable and would not have willingly left Oracle.

I had to learn a great deal but it was worth it. I have updated skill sets that are in demand everywhere. Biggest demand I see is migration off of Oracle on to MongoDB and anything else... snowflake, Azure data lake etc...

I got a nice severance package and stepped into a raise with a company that has real cloud technology. You can create a cluster in minutes in any of the major cloud providers at a fraction of what Oracle charges for its cloud that doesn't integrate with anything.

My advice, kick back and relax if you get laid off it's a good thing. Get your entry level certifications in the real cloud providers while you wait so you will sound modern in your interviews and won't be laughed at by speaking Oracle jargon.

Yes! Break out of your silo. Do it on your time and terms, and on Oracle’s dime. Then move on to another tech or company and BURY your new competitor. Oracle’s cloud was born of denial then panic and desperation. This poster is 100% cloud computing is easy on ANY platform other than oh seee eye.
