Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Time to move on!

Been with the company 10+ years & I’ve had enough. My retail store was impacted earlier this year & my option was take a nice severance or apply for telesales… let’s just say, I regret not taking the severance. My mental health is not ok :( Working from home being stuck inside sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day.. trying to close 140 boxes a month & $10,500 bucket, just to make a measly $1,250.. all while listening to whining customers all day with barely ANY time in between calls.. it really does takes a toll on you! It’s time to move on… I will not allow a job to stress me out this bad, it’s not even worth the money. F that…

It’s comforting hearing other departments are pulling their hair out also and short staffed. Although they don’t know what it’s really like until you have 6 customers in que all standing around staring at you. All the while we are all staring at a tablet wondering what these different error messages mean. This company has really gone down hill. Even customers bring it up to us on the daily.

I’ve started just telling customers the truth, “ we are short staffed and no one wants to apply in an environment like this”

Yes. Whoever below said a “double edge sword” is exactly on point. Trying to balance on a tight rope between customers with high expectations and management with higher expectations than ever - both of which are polar opposites. Not exactly the best if you are a people pleaser - cause often - neither customer or manager is happy. And if you are lucky to make one (either customer or manager) happy - usually the other isn’t.

Short staffed?

“Just so you know customer…you can order online and skip the line with ISPU”…exactly the talk track they want to drive more business online.

Short staffed?

Reps will burn out and the tenured who feel taken advantage of with MORE responsibilities for LESS pay might leave on their own.

Sounds like the perfect recipe
Exactly what they want

They are listening - but they are probably happy to hear it’s working

Then we’ll just be down to new hire part timers and then will have less traffic since we have created high wait times and poor experiences in the stores for the small percentage of customers who were still shopping in stores.

Thought the band-aid would have been pulled off quicker than this. Rep morale aside - I’m surprised at how poorly at least in my opinion they are letting the stores be run. I guess it makes sense because maybe the goal is more focused on getting rid of tenured reps than it is to close stores - although I’m sure the latter is on the agenda as well.

I would think they’d be concerned with company image being tainted by skeleton stores with low morale - and I’d also think it would be more profitable to close a couple of stores and focus on staffing and boosting morale in the remaining stores - but maybe that’s not going to achieve the issue of getting the tenured out.

Either way, I’ve told myself for the past couple of years as I have been bracing for a layoff or store closure (which I am honestly surprised hasn’t happened by now) that there is no way I’d fight to stay or reapply for an open store if I was offered a package. As it is, I’m not even sure I’m waiting too much longer for a package. What they are putting us through to get there is no longer worth it to me.

My team is overworked and understaffed (finance) and when people leave they are not back filled. It feels like the company is going out of business the way we are so short handed. Is it like this everywhere in Verizon or just in Finance?

Why wouldn’t you take severance it’s like your easy way out. 10 year tenure that’s 5 1/2 months of pay. That was the last loyalty Verizon had given you. Sorry you didn’t make the right choice now get ready here comes the next call.

How can your work in Telesales and still complain. You’ve got it a million times better then retail and still have the opportunity to make bank. Instead of complaining work harder. The phones are non-stop this month. If you make $1250 you have only yourself to blame.

They will never go back to individual quota or commissions. One reason is that reps in our stores in NY metro area are doing 75 plus adds a month while getting a $900 commission check if they were individual quota they would easily make $ 5,000 a month and even the other full time reps are doing 30 plus adds a month which would be $2000 plus a month! Their motives for this production is the belief of promotion to store management, why they would want that is beyond belief? Thus the money VZW is saving for this production in understaffed stores. By the way the 3 part timers in our store have accepted and will move to 40hours!

It only makes sense that Verizon will offer a retention bonus and/or an increase in hourly pay.

Systems don't work, no phones, no staff, 360 is a joke, hour plus wait times, all for a cr---y RIS. It's a double edged sword. I think they made the systems worse so you take more time with the customer. My cr---y commission check is not worth it. Starting to job hunt today. That'll leave 3 reps to my store when I leave. Oh well.

One of the silliest things ever was leadership believing stores were over head count and made reps do WFH or take a package. Now the 24/32 initiative is dead in the water and any conspiracy theories have been thrown out the window. Now they want everyone at 40 hours... how ironic is that ? Rumor has it now they will back peddle and bring individualized commission back. It makes sense because reps will hustle more and not complain about short staffing when they end up getting more sales. I bet leadership is looking back now and saying getting rid of commission was done at the worst possible time. It sure was. Now all you have left is understaffed stores with miserable reps. Throw us a bone.

They "convinced" all our part timers to go full time under leadership directive. Most of them accepted because they were already coded at 24 or 32 but working over 40+ hours. I'm convinced it was because of a possible law suit. Imagine taking a 32 or 24 hour step down to work 5+ days a week and over 40 hours. Clown show.

Speaking the truth. If only those in HQ would see this message and understand it’s how all of retail feels. We feel lifeless and get no support. They say they are here for us but all we see is broken promises and them saying, “ you spoke, we listened”.

I’m hearing across the country that this “part-time” hiring spree isn’t bringing the quality they had hoped. This is coming from 3 recruiters in different parts of the country. Maybe one day, those up top will truly listen to our voice.

Dude I feel you. I've 10/10 every carrier descision and choice in my life. The one miss and fail that I have was not taking the WFH or severance when my store was "over head count" (hilarious in retrospect that we can't get anyone to apply and we also close early or for whole days due to staffing) I chose to stay in store while being high on the tenure to get my choice. However I never in a million years imagine that retail would become such trash, mismanaged from the top, and a freaking clown show every singe day. Honestly prime lesson in how not to run a retail business. Either way like everyone with half a brain I'm just milking it and planning my exit. When has anything at verizon in the last 10 years gotten better for the employees or the customers. Game over.

We feel your pain! It’s the same feeling in retail stores, but it’s even worse. We constantly don’t take lunches or breaks. If one person calls out or goes on vacation, our stores might as well close down. Commission is just as bad and no one cares in stores.
