2021 Objectives MBO

So I'm an IC with no control over the budget, hiring, firing, or expenses. They put in our team's 2021 Objectives "Profitability" in the CP&D Tool and the say "Be conscious of budget constraints" and "model the do more with less" mindset. Can't make this up.

So despite the fact that I have ZERO control over expenses, headcount, etc. and my company phone was cancelled, I was booted to Remote with no offer of home internet or home office allowance, and my laptop hasn't been replaced in ages, exactly how can I "do more with less?!" other than work for free? This is such a joke! Is it not Management 101 not to put goals and objectives for which people have zero control over?! It's never about "well, what do you need to be more effective or how can we support you here?" Of course not. Instead, the only support we all get it "Hey, do more with less, get a mindset of do more with less."

I am going to focus my energy on upcoming interviews and GTFO of this suffocating culture. This is not a healthy place to be.

You don't really want WF paying for your home internet access unless it's going to be a dedicated work connection.

Wanna surf NSFW sites on a WF paid for internet connection?

Download some mp3's on a WF paid for connection?

Send a heated email, post on a heated message board?

Post here?

As soon as WF foots the bill for it, any and all activity performed on that connection is on behalf of WF and reflects on you as an employee.

I've been purchasing my own office supplies for years.

Same thing happed at Wachovia 6 months before they went belly up. Desperate measures from desperate companies.

They used to pay some trivial amount for internet access for permanent telecommuters, around $100. It was significantly cheaper than it costs to rent space for a cube in Class A office space in downtown Minneapolis or Charlotte. Charlie cancelled it around the same time BYOD started ramping up.

I'm confused why you thought the firm would pay for your home internet and home office. And you're upset they made you work from home? Wait until you see what's in store for you in the next couple months.

I love the ones like Say what you mean, be candid. How does anyone know if I am actually doing that? Or build relationships with those who are not like you, how do you know who is not like me? I can identify as anything I like. So no one is like me.

The objective is standardized, ignore it. There is no "weighting" requirement for objectives anymore, so your manager can, and will, literally put "0% weight" on that objective, or that specific part of the objective. It's a nothing burger and not worth losing sleep over.

all we heard was that we were going to have meaningful and measureable MBO's this year. My MBO document is over 20 pages long, none are measurable, none are anything upon which I can have impact. And the Leadership objective is a joke. Nothing at all is measurable or meaningful.

I have three MBOs two of which have zero relevance to my job just like this. The one that was relevant basically ignored 90% of my job role.
