Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Why Fit In When You Were Born To Stand Out

“Fitting in with the crowd is the easy option that requires less work and thought and it is the path that many choose for the sake of an easy life. By merely fitting in you are denying yourself the opportunity to grow as a person and you are limiting your ability to succeed. Stand Out From The Crowd.”

Everyone’s experience is different, but I believe WFC’s strategy is to profit off of embracing mediocrity:

  1. Outsourcing and Offshoring work
  2. 2% standard increases
  3. Ranking the majority of employees in to the “Meets” category (the old 3). They, either intentionally or unintentionally, are fostering complacency and settling for less.
  4. Instability from the top down
  5. DE &I (I’m pro-DE&I but WFC has and will sc--w it up, losing focus on watching the store)
  6. Eliminating higher paid experienced roles and bringing in new lower paid inexperienced roles through lay-offs and stagnation. Talent is leaving and WFC does not have a culture that will keep new talent for long. (A few high performers is no match for mass mediocrity.)
  7. Converting once knowledgeable and unique satisfying roles in to massive Call Centers.
  8. Paying the C-Suite more and the average employee less, devaluing and disrespecting the employee’s role
  9. If the head of the company does not push boundaries, is not visionary, then how are his direct reports and their direct reports going to exercise excellence?
  10. The focus is all on cost-cutting and profit. This is not a company striving for excellence.
  11. We have mediocre traditional leadership, mediocre technology, mediocre processes, and a mediocre culture. All while the modern world is moving forward at a fast pace.

Wells Fargo doesn’t have it’s finger on the pulse and is always too little too late. Don’t settle for fitting in and doing what is best for Wells Fargo. Be your best, stand out from the crowd and hone your unique talents. If Wells Fargo isn’t willing to pay you what you are worth or respect you for what you bring to the table - then find a company where you can grow. We deserve better, and we can’t afford to grow stagnant at a company that doesn’t invest in and embrace high performance.

No, you are totally misunderstanding the issue. It is not that we cost more per employee than any other company. The issue is that we require 3 employees to achieve the work that 1 employee achieves at our competitors. To be clear, this is not a slam at employees, although we do have severe issues with disengagement. The issue is our archaic technology and seemingly complete inability to get within two decades of our competitors.

We are at a late 1990s/early 2000s level of technology… at least 25 years behind our competition. It is no surprise that we require more employees than competitors.

I've been saying this for awhile. While on one hand WF is such a massive company cobbled together over the years that any real change takes a massive movement, time, and money, the issue always seems to be they don't want to take the time to actually do it and see it work...even if they've already spent the money. Add to that, high end management changing all the time and each new person coming in with their own 'improvement plans'. It gets old and I've seen this at multiple other companies.

Recently with all the changes - our management keeps making statements like - we cost more per employee than any other company - or - this is how other companies do it so we are changing to match. I always shake my head and say, so you want to just be like other run of the mill companies that cheap out rather than lead the pack and make it a place that people are happy and proud to work at? We already have to deal with the public constantly bashing WF due to all the BS they let happen for so many years. I won't even tell anyone I work for WF these days.
