Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Corp Comms Leadership

Hearing from multiple colleagues in comms and in LOBs that BR’s time is ticking fast. She will be out in 3-6 months. No confidence in her from top down, mostly at the top. Her re-org viewed as a joke, very badly managed/inputted, not yielding the outcomes she has promised.

Ad for CSBB CMO is online. Looks like location is New York. Hopefully that means we get a decent NY ad agency and a revamped IHA as well. Lord knows the agency JM hired hasn’t done us any favors, and the “leader” chosen by ML for the IHA, well, it’s been downhill ever since.

ML is already gone. He was let go by MM who said we no longer need a consumer CMO. She is hiring a "CSBB CMO" allegedly. Not a replacement for JM, nor for ML... those ships have sailed. company is not going to have an enterprise CMO or even an overall consumer CMO. Bulk of marketing was the COEs/operations and those are in SN's team where they will stay.

She wasn't a great hire. The accountability of running an agency with clients and being the client are very different. You can't pin failures on the client here.

She will never be fired. If she wasn’t fired after that Tweet last year then she will never be let go.

The only big exec wells is recruiting for right now is Marketing replacing JM.

Supposedly the reason ML is leaving is that the CMO role was done away with. So this can’t be right. Maybe they’re looking for a marketing leader for a particular LOB?

If any group needs to be cut it’s marketing. The outside agencies do all the real work anyway, while our overpaid marketing execs work on PowerPoints.

In other big corporations admins do what they do.

You're right, no corporate execs ever get their golden parachutes! (/sarcasm)

@jfn Don't feel too bad for those of us that left on our own. I can say it was the best decision in my career. WF was a stall-out stop in my Corp Comm career. Moving on meant gaining seniority, more money, much better work/life balance and the exit from an extremely toxic work environment.

I hope those displaced find amazing opportunities outside of WF. Those who remain, I hope things get better. It was absolutely exhausting to be part of WF for the last year since BD and BR came in.

I haven’t heard that although it would be great if it happened. I am seeing confusion and anger in the business at this org and how poorly it was executed with no communication. The businesses are now hiring their own comms people.

“ I work for C suite wells exec and I can tell you none of Charlie’s directs will be going anywhere. The way his directs are hired and the contracts they sign are iron clad and would cost the bank Millions if we let her go.”

She’s not a direct report to Charlie. She’s not on the OC. None of what you claim applies to her.

There is no truth to this. I work for C suite wells exec and I can tell you none of Charlie’s directs will be going anywhere. The way his directs are hired and the contracts they sign are iron clad and would cost the bank Millions if we let her go. Also her role would be handled by a executive recruiter and discussed at the weekly OC meetings and neither are happening. The only big exec wells is recruiting for right now is Marketing replacing JM. My two cents. Corp Comms needs to drop a bunch more dead weight. No more pony program, no more museum program, too many marketing program manager’s who have no direct reports to manage. Too bloated it’s the Donal Trump of wells.

Ask BNY employees about Chainsaw and Fredo. Ask Ketchum employees about Botox. Lots of similarities. Starting with how dehumanizing they are and how ineffective they were.

BR is a complete failure and bad hire, that is undisputed. (Great job yet again by BD hiring incompetent tokens.). However, she put her last firm, Ketchum, through a similar and very unsuccessful reorg when she Peter Principled to their US CEO role simply due to her gender.
I just feel for the many good people needlessly let go due to her poor management, many who left due to her poor management, and i feel for the few remaining great people still here who suffer under so many SVPs in Public Affairs and Corp Comms who should've been the first fired. There is a lot of them here cashing checks who never should've ben hired as managers in the first place.

I’m sure that’s quite a consolation to the people she’s already forced out.

Anyway, don’t get your hopes up. I’ve been hearing that about my 2 up manager for 2 years, and he’s still here. Still giving bad direction, still the reason for multiple extraneous rounds, still promoting his sycophants and ignoring everyone else.

That’s life at the big bank.
