Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Whatever happened to Verizon

I remember when Verizon use to be a company that cared about their employees and rewarded you based on the quality of your services and your ability to grow sales, they took all and every incentive away to drive sales from their top performers to reward mediocrity and in the process enrage their customers. Now you have mediocre sales associates, mediocre customer service, mediocre management, mediocre cell phone coverage and everyone seems to look the other way and pass the blame. Will we ever see Verizon go back to what it once was as both an employer and a cell phone carrier? Or are we forever stuck in this revolving door of mediocrity.

That is why I am starting to look for another job. Verizon used to be amazing. Now I get paid far less and have to work longer hours. A friend of mine does work from home (wish I had made the switch) they are hiring a bunch of people and they aren’t coming from stores. I used to make so much I could never think about switching jobs. Now it is much easier because I make much less.

I think that is what they are going for. Force the ones who are used to having huge commission checks to quit and get someone out of college who is used to working for much less. It sure seems like they are transitioning to all indirect. Way better deals online stores cant honor it.

Team commission is terrible but maybe that is what they wanted. The hard workers get paid the same as the lazy ones.

1000% agree with those other posts. VZ India is worthless and should be disbanded. They are the #1 reason why we have IT layoffs in the first place. And they don’t have a clue what is best for Verizon sales employees who use our Point Of Sale systems nor How American customers use our online VZW.com systems
Quality from them is poor. Production defects have never been higher. Sales Reps and Customers are very upset. Sales are falling. Customer Service calls are up. All due the Poor Quality we receive from them. Disband VZ India immediately. Merica

Good morning from Uncle Verizon. I'm here to remind you to make sure you let the union know you need to work from home. It's vitally important you do so.
We want the very best for our expensive, entitled leiblings.
I assure you there couldn't possibly be any risk or harm in keeping you separated from one another and your union representatives.
We wouldn't dream of using that (or anything else) to our advantage.
You can trust us to keep you safe at home.

I hope you guys had a relaxing weekend! It's the start of a brand new week, and time to renew your efforts to let the union know your wishes. Everyone needs to make sure they contact the union in at least one way to let them know the advantages of working from home. Let them know that it benefits Verizon and you. Despite what they will tell you, it benefits the union as YOU ARE the union. The union exists by you and for you. What is good for you is good for the union. So, call, e-mail, snail mail... Any way is perfect. Whatever keeps you at home.

VSP was the worst mistake ever. To lose 10% of the Highest Quality & Experienced employees, to save a couple billion dollars was another Verizon blunder. Goes down in the books as the worst decision Verizon has made since the purchase of Yahoo & AOL.

Welcome to the mediocre Verizon. They were hardly ever “good” to their employees. When Bell Atlantic came in, that’s when someone pulled the plug on the drain. It has been a slow trip to mediocrity, but here you are, we can do the job with people who don’t belong in management titles.

VZ cares about the network, people have never been a priority. Not for one moment.

It’s weird that the company is paying more to recruit employees than the amount they pay their people to sell 5G. I think that’s a good indicator of where they are at as a company. Sad really.

Sorry OP, but I don't remember such a company, at least not in the last 20 years.

You sound like the people who think wistfully back to the 1950s time of innocence. NOT. The 1950s seemed innocent because nothing was talked about. But there was plenty of crime, teenagers getting knocked up, war vet suicides, racism, dr-gs, terrible examples of humanity in Hollywood, and corruption in politics. Sounds just like today except we know half of what's going on now instead of barely anything.

The best option is to cut VZ India completely out of the Picture. Use only onshore American workers living in the States. And stop using contractor vendors like InfoSys and Cognizant . Quality will go way way way up if this happened.

Outsourcing and using VZ India up to 90% of what was done by Full Time Verizon employees in the States has hurt the Quality of the products and services IT use to offer.

That’s why I left Verizon. You can’t take away sales incentives and expect to keep talented salespeople. Their decision to shrink corporate retail lead to these changes. The ultimate goal is to retain very few corporate stores that run with low paid, low maintenance crews. Vending machines really. Sad but true, you’re experience working at Verizon won’t get better unless you can sell (a lot) in the business channel.
