No substitute for being together what a crock! More like cow towing to the city mayors!

So then why are so many of the big tech companies going 100% remote?

He doesn’t really believe any of the BS he’s spewing. I can’t believe he (or his underlings) can actually offer these silly reasons with a straight face. The only thing motivating this RTO push is expense reduction. He knows if he makes employees miserable, while other employers are making things better, employees will leave. They leave of their own free will and he doesn’t have to pay them severance. Cuts headcount without having to layoff, plus no added expense of severance. And you can bet most vacated positions won’t be allowed to backfill. It’s fairly transparent and it seems the only ones believing it are Charlie’s directs. All evidence is that for most support type positions, WFH is more productive, employee satisfaction is higher and many (most?) employers are now offering it. Yet WF is going the exact opposite direction. Go figure.
None of my coworkers or internal contacts work in my building. There is absolutely no reason for me to commute into an office. I have never met my current boss nor the previous one in person. With budget cuts for what is considered non essential travel I cannot meet with other coworkers.
Going back to the office increases costs for me. Work wardrobe, commute costs, other incidentals such as lunch. Not to mention extra time out of my day.
It just doesn't make sense for many of us.
I am not in a customer facing position, obviously.
So where is all this ad hoc interacting going to happen? In our cubicles? Hope the other 50 people in earshot don’t mind. Where are these magical cafeterias and water coolers where strangers meet up and chat? Every metric says WFH is better - productivity wise, carbon footprint wise, reduced sick time wise and employees happiness wise. Why are they sticking to this RTO so hard? The buildings don’t cost more if they are empty. What’s driving it?
@yvk+1bXR9Hqa It's because they can find cheap labor in red states with years of brain drain driving wages down and corrupt state governments who will erode labor laws.
If Wells Fargo really cared about people working in person :
- People wouldn't be at their desk on conference calls with others that are either in the same building or only within a 10 minute walk. Those people would be in conference rooms together.
- The only people under your manager would be on your floor and not in a different state.
I wonder what kind of a carbon footprint WF is going to leave when everyone has to start commuting again. They constantly talk about the environment and DE&I with zero evidence. Just word vomit.
I just want to know why the higher ups insist on making $|-|!+ Holes "hubs". It's almost like they have a checklist. Crazy high housing prices? Check. Horrible congestion / traffic and long commutes? Check. Riots and generally high levels of violence? Check. Paid parking on WF property? Check. Pollution and trash everywhere? Check. Homeless encampments? Check.
They couldn't do worse if it was all intentional, though I guess they have managed to avoid Chi-Raq.
So out of touch. Lunch in the cafeteria, lol
- >Boomer attitude
Apologies for misunderstanding, appreciate your positive comments and agreement with my thoughts!
Dude, the guy you were replying to is agreeing with you.
No doubt a comment from a true Charlie shill. Boomer attitude? You bet your sweet *ss it is! WF is doing better than it ever has as a result of the current WFH status and productivity gains. More work gets done with fewer interruptions, and a smaller carbon footprint=better for everyone! Get with the program or have fun commuting into a sh|thole city. Good luck shill!
All the sales practices issues happened when everyone was in the office. By his logic, if we had all been working at home, maybe we would have avoided that mess??
We don't get lunches and we don't "chat" as we go down the hall. We are stuck on conference calls across three time zones so there is never an in person meeting - ever!
It just reeks of Boomer attitude. You nitwits don't understand, and you never will. Completely out of touch with the way work is done these days. We don't need suits, we don't need offices, and we don't need to see anyone face to face. Service jobs aside, Its a digital world and if you're not leading and truly innovating in that world, you may as well shut your doors.
