I heard that VP is generally the end of career for most people. Is that true?
When you realized that you don’t have a chance to go to ED/MD level, did you choose to leave? Why or why not?
I am a new person at WF so any shared insight will be appreciated.

Well in tech it’s as such:
AVP
x-x Engineer
x-x Assoc Mgr
VP
x-x Snr Engineer
x-x Manager (non-Assoc titles)
SVP
Senior Engineering Manager
Technology Executive
Technology Senior Executive

CIO
I think Principal and Distinguished Engineer might fall under SVP but i didn’t ask the one i know. Guessing the TBSA would align similarly with Snr Assoc being VP and regular being AVP
I agree I’ve been a VP for a decade every business unit has their own qualifications for SVP. It’s a joke.
@qer … nailed it. Doesn’t mean a thing (other than a few extra days of PTO back then)… only confuses other companies when in application process there… honestly leave it off resume
Being a VP is fantastic, most don't know. Free club med vacations. Free meals at Michelin star joints with unlimited drinks on the company card for not only you but your friends and clients any time. Free Thai massages when your stressed in the middle of the work day. A private butler who does your work laundry. Oh and stock options that would blow your mind, my 1 year of extra stock options is 10 years of your salary. VP is like being a made man.
These titles mean nothing in this company. I am an AVP who has VPs working for me on my team. Those titles came from the legacy Wachovia folks after the merge. Wells didnt have those at the time and I was told that instead of $$ increases, Wachovia handed out titles. Nobody that I have ever worked with here claims some sort of elevated status with their titles.
Some day all of our job titles will be mundane entry level-sounding cr-p. Easier to justify low pay ranges and sub-inflation raises.
I have a title and it has changed literally nothing. I would probably include it on my resume if I was changing jobs - that's about it. The VP title has neither helped nor harmed along the way. If they took titles away it wouldn't make a bit of difference. Tho, it would be odd for the Bank to take back titles since there's no cost for them.
It's not like my AVP title really says anything other than "I finally have a manager who gives a 5#1+". Losing it is honestly just losing some bytes attached to some moderately more significant bytes.
Like everything else, I imagine that corp titles will go away for anyone not at the OC level or reporting to the OC. Goes hand in hand with the numbered job descriptions going away later this year, so no matter how long you've been with the company you'll look like a new hire on your resume. Thanks WF.
