Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Attendance, Punctuality, Corrective Action

For those who thought previous Employee Relations (HR) posters were making this up, check out the latest Team Link email today, under "More HR information now available...":

"as well as manager content for Attendance and Punctuality, and Corrective Action"

▶️ ALL managers are now required to use the "stick" to document both exempt AND non-exempt employees.

▶️ If you violate the updated Attendance and Punctuality policy in ANY way (without valid excuse), you WILL be written up, which WILL lead to Corrective Actions if it occurs multiple times. Corrective Actions lead to termination.

Make no mistake about it:

▪️ WF is not getting enough natural attrition to meet goals of operational expense reduction.
▪️ WF wants to avoid severance payouts (separation payments).
▪️ WF plans to "paper out" employees for just cause (lawful terminations).
▪️ Attendance and Punctuality policy conveniently and clearly outlined in updated Employee Handbook.

If you think exempts are exempt, WRONG.

If you think your manager adores you and would never do that, you're WRONG. It's now a requirement and ER (HR) is pulling reports.

The "stick" to fire people for petty infractions is in full force. WF is h*ll bent on reducing headcount by any means necessary.

Sending this warning so employees know what's happening.

They can use badge swipes for termination. I had a coworker who was a real mental case. My manager wanted to get rid of her for a black and white issue that the employee couldn't try to argue. This coworker was a few minutes late every day. My boss used that to fire the coworker for "lying on her timesheet" because on her timesheet she put that she was on time every day.

NSA is not a relevant example. That's "I don't do X behavior" - which of course in the NSA's case is widely believed to be a lie. NSA however has no repercussions or consequences of that lie.

badge swipes are definitely monitored... however, they are simply are not accurate/reliable for punctuality and attendance purposes. Our building tech is not that good.

They're not going to use them because our risk-averse ER team would never let that be the basis on which someone faced disciplinary action, and it's there in black and white as the policy. Of course policy can change, but right now it would be impossible to prove punctuality or attendance based on badge swipes.

Yeah, and the NSA says they aren't reading our email / 'private' social media content! lol

Another reason RTO is necessary for getting people to quit and/or be fired. Those suddenly having to drive in and fight traffic will be late occasionally, and with this years long rolling lookback, that's some quick terminations.

@1inb+1bVyZsCR it clearly says in the FAQS that badge swipes cannot/will not be used for tracking attendance. they are used for other things (seating capacity) but not attendance.

More misinformation on this site. It says in the manager FAQs (which anyone can see on TW) that exempt positions are not tracked using the "occurrence" approach - the lookback and occurrence approach are for non-exempt only.

If you are in an exempt position, you're expected to manage your hours and attendance in a manner that allows you to meet the requirements of the job... including department/manager expectations about available times, etc. Lack of availability/reliability is dealt with via performance-based, not occurrence based approach.

Nope. Let's just say we don't all work bankers hours. Sometimes I work 9-5, sometimes I'm working at midnight on a Sunday. I generally work 10 hours a day or so. When those hours take place is variable due to business needs. I guess they could try to lock it to 8-5, if they want it to be epic fail and to reduce how much I work/produce.

Which is why I applied for 16 jobs and counting outside of WF since Friday RTO debacle.

Boy, is this timely.

Our manager gave us a warning about it today after reviewing manager site. We're an exempt team, too, full of professionals with long, exemplary careers.

There will be an official start time and any infractions will be documented. Badge swipes monitored, corrective actions...the whole 9 yards. We were told to "carefully" read the updated attendance policy, too.

I feel like we're being treated like children. Wells Fargo definitely wants a lot of people to quit. Until then, I predict productivity will be in a steep decline. Clock punchers, all of us!

A "nothingburger"? I thought only my kids said things like that! Better start implementing age requirements on this site.

well if there are only 3 people in an elevator it may get a bit hard to crack the whip. It could take an hour sitting in the lobby and they certainly cannot ding people for that. Or the desk cleaning etc.

So you have a talented, skilled, experienced employee who works hard and stays late when necessary, but is often 5-10 minutes late. And then you have a lazy unskilled reckless employee who is punctual but brings nothing else to the table. Who do you keep and who do you let go?

WFC should get out of the banking business and get into running Kindergarten schools.

Badge swipes and logone times are easily run by HR data analysts. In twenty mimutes they can know the last five years of activity.

Its already too late if they are truly going retroactive

You have a schedule, even if it wasn't formally communicated. 8am-5pm your local time zone is the standard.

Pay close attention to their “lookback policy” too, in those links.

How are you 'late' if you don't have a schedule? Seems like a nothingburger.
