Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

The social butterflies have been layed off, but?

Our department let go the social butterflies who consistently bounced from person to person before getting back to their seats to do (uhm..) work. They too often had to be prompted to complete the basics. Stretched their PTO to the max and went beyond that as well, never missing a stretched year. Others had to pick up their slack. But now that they are (rightfully) gone, who is next to be layed off? We have a great department where everyone gets along fine and everyone holds their own.

In my group, the people who volunteered to do things like employee satisfaction stuff, lunch and learns, etc., never got laid off because they were teachers' pets. And the managers didn't want to do that stuff themselves. But the thing I always wondered was:
"How do these people have time to do this stuff? They obviously have time on their hands." Which made me angry because these people who didn't have enough to do never got laid off.

Many of these 'social butterflies' are tenured employees with a lot of service, and have earned solid PTO, but aren't providing the same value they used to. It is harsh, but past value doesn't accrue over time exclusively. It should be valued, but you can't just skate by on what you used to do forever. If I am understanding the OP's narrative here.

this dude said the social butterflies who stretched their PTO to the max. hey man, shove it! I get paid 6 weeks a year and I am not giving any of it back. you must be paid less so they kept you around. they will soon find out who was actually doing the work around there with them gone. enjoy the extra workload dude.

Note to self: hire more butterflies to solve the problem and increase morale.

If one cannot correctly spell “laid” while disparaging others, I’d vote for them to be the next laid off. I’d fire you myself out of principle.

It must be nice to live in OP's mind where he builds this universe in which perfect Wells Fargo only lays off all the dead wood and social butterflies. The layoffs would never come for him, because he's Good and the others are Bad, and deserved it.
