Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Laid off and interviews

There have been many posts about how it looks to recruiters when you're laid off.
I just had a few interviews from different companies and when they ask why I am no longer at Wells Fargo, I tell them that I was laid off and they understand and say it's typical within banking and they move on to the next question or topic.
If you're laid off, just be honest and I promise, the recruiters don't hold it against you.
I have been laid off previously and it was the same understanding.

@iwq+1bNN0XRa Every job out there has hundreds of applicants, and nobody reviews them all. If you were rejected the day after you applied, safe to assume the applicant tracking system kicked your application out before anyone even saw it. There's a million reasons why you may have been rejected -- starting with you didn't match on enough keywords from the job description. Or maybe they are about to extend an offer to someone else.

While I'm sure it's technically possible for companies to use the applicant tracking system to weed out any WF candidates, I doubt they'd go to the trouble. Of course, if you get to the interview stage there could be anti-WF bias.

I'd argue that this is why it's so critical to network, and hopefully have an advocate on the inside. If a trusted internal source is talking up your skills and potential fit, the anti WF bias will go out the window.

I am still with WFC and started applying outside. Guess what, next day after I submitted my resume, I am immediately rejected. Is it because I am from WFC? Before I joined this bank, I had no issues with other companies. Am I doomed?

Recruiters are a neccessary evil of HR. I agree w OP...just be up front. I've been very candid w the recritters (my pet name for them) in past...ie: my group was sold off, my area was sunsetted, company didnt require the product any longer.

Layoffs are inevitable.

It was suggested I use term like “job eliminated” instead of “layoff”, just less baggage with the term for some. And I added context… “as part of major enterprise multi-year cost saving initiatives”. I agree, telling the truth never backfired on me.

Consider it a rare advantage of working at WF, everyone in banking knows about their years of layoffs, their aggressive cost-save goals, the asset cap etc. No need to over-explain.
