Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Relocate or take package?

So, it's apparent many are going to be told to 1) relocate to a hub at your own expense, or 2) Take a severance package, in Q3 or Q4.

They're already doing semi-forced relocations by screening out candidates for new postings if they aren't in a hub, or making them sign an agreement that they'll relocate this Fall and if they don't they will have been considered to have voluntarily resigned if they don't end up working at that location as of a specified date. That should tell you a lot right there.

So people who may relocate in Q3/Q4 do so at their own risk, incurring thousands in relo costs, only to possibly get laid off 3 to 12 months after getting to a hub? And I'm hearing once they get to a hub, there won't be assigned seating for them, just hotel seating. I mean, can it get anymore ridiculous?! How does anyone know if they relocate to a hub if they'll have a job 6 months after getting there? If feel this is all in favor of WF, as it usually is.

Don't relocate they'll lay you off anyways I worked at Mckesson the pharmaceutical distributor they gave IT employees the ultimatum to relocate or lose their jobs. When they decided to en masse relocate and called the company's bluff the entire IT team was laid off because the company was dirty and wanted to get rid of them in the first place.

I wouldn’t relocate for this company, not with them going cheap and sending jobs overseas to drive up the stock price. You could do that and still not have a job tomorrow. I have seen people relocate and still lose their job later.

That’s been the problem with tech since the agile and automation push began. They have no plan.

Hey field reps and remote working folks....read up on the sneaky updates made to Handbook. I've telecommuted for 11 out of my 16 years. I'm nervous about the hub and relocation "strategy" idea they have threated for the past two years. I'm sure it's coming and, yes, it's needed. It was eye opening the read that severance will not be offered to those telecommuters whose job is being relocated to within 40 miles of their remote/home office. I'm lucky, or maybe unlucky, to work over 40 miles from any possible HUB. I'm counting on that severance offer due to a policy protected "significant job change". If you're one of those within 40 miles....be careful, as your job change is not eligible for severance. Way to go, cheap WF.

Absolutely.. voluntary severance takers also do their coworkers, that really want to stay long term, a solid. For the suits and bean counters it's all about numbers, and the least painful way we can get to those #s the better. People talk about voluntarily leaving the company like it's a bad thing, it's not. It's literally better for everyone. The person, their coworker that wants to stay, and the company. Classic win win win.

I would not relocate for this company. I've seen people move for jobs only to be cut a few months later.

Feel fortunate that you have a choice. Those of us who live in Hubs (I’m in Dallas) pray for layoffs that probably won’t come until the end of Charles in Charge’s corporate right sizing initiative. The longer you wait, the worse it will get.

Seriously, take the severance. I think most of us here would prefer to be the first ones out the door as opposed to the last ones left behind to turn out the lights.

I know this rumor is a popular one these days, but I'm not sure anyone that knows the scope of this plan has been vocal about it here. It may not even apply to you or your LOB, so there's really no need to get worked up about it right now.

It’s one thing to relocate for an opportunity. It’s another thing to relocate just to keep your job. I wouldn’t do the latter under any circumstances.

This is all to benefit Charlie, help him hit his number for staff reductions, and then he'll take his "performance" bonus and run to the next company to do the same. The next CEO will come in and take a different approach, with different "hubs" or God forbid tell everyone they can work from home since that's the best way to save the company a TON of money in real estate costs.

None of this hub nonsense is for efficiencies, a better working environment, etc. It's all a reflection of so-called leaders digging their heels in, not listening or caring AT ALL about "employees," and following the stupid voices in their own heads that tell them they are right ALL THE TIME, no matter what employees may tell the or what research and surveys indicate employees actually want.

Bottom line... do what is best for you and your family, and only that! If you have no desire to live in one of the WF hubs for your group (which change based on the whims of the leaders in power), DO NOT MOVE! There are other jobs out there that are almost guaranteed to have better work environments.
