Saw this lovely new system tray icon when I logged in just now. This means that your computer is trying to figure out where it is based on built-in GPS (if it has it), wifi and ethernet signals to determine your physical location.
No clearer indication that they are trying to figure out how far I am from the nearest office. Please, oh please, give me a package.
OP is paranoid.
They already have your home address, you gave it to them when you applied, and they have your IP address, because you need an IP address to use the internet.
What a silly thing to be worried about, your employer knowing where you are while they're paying you to do work.
Forgive me for not being shocked. Their equipment. In fact, if I was shipping equipment, especially to people starting that I'd never laid eyes on, I'd want it tracked even more.
Additionally, there are regulatory laws that govern bank operations when those operations cross into other countries. The bank must follow or face fines.
If you work in Minneapolis and your computer always pings back in Minneapolis and then one day starts pinging out of a slavic country, SOMEONE is going to get flagged over in IT security.

Hopefully, they've been monitoring this a loooong time and I just hadn't seen it before. If they have they'll know my computer almost never moves from my home location unless it goes to one other specific alternate location or a WF site.
distance to office is based off your home address in your employee profile
Why do you think all conference calls are being managed through Skype. Everything is being monitored and analyzed. Be careful out there. Palantir and alike surveillance tools are widely at use.
They already know your IP address. Oh and they know your home address. So what do you think they don't know?
Its just part of a windows update. However if your using a company computer they are well within their right to track anything and everything regarding your usage.

There is nothing that isnt monitored. The ones you see are not the ones reporting your activity times, sites visited, % productive time...

to add, it could be pulse secure getting your location to provide the best VPN route however if you are really concerned that charlie cares to know where you are, get a router with a built in vpn and put your location anywhere in the world.
you do realize that is built into windows 10 and started showing up with the last update. there is some app or apps using your location. I doubt the company is doing any nefarious, not that I would put it past them.
