Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Employee Numbers EOY

Without providing enough detail to OUT my identity, suffice it to say that I'm close to a team that has the task of providing what I'll call a "widget" to every employee of WF by Q1 2022.

These "widgets" are not cheap trinkets. They're a piece of gear that every individual is going to need to access the network next year. It's not an option to NOT give every employee one widget.

Problem is that the cost of each "widget" recently (and unexpectedly) increased, and now the total cost of all these "widgets" (one for each employee) exceeds the budget by a LOT.

We were told that we MUST buy these, but now we can't because the cost numbers have become too high. So our leadership asked for more money so we could purchase one widget per employee (and here's the important part) based on the number of employees we had been given.

We have now been told that "at the end of 2021 we should now plan to need only 200,000 widgets". This didn't come from some manager - this came from a high-up executive in HR or Finance (I don't know which one).

It didn't sound like something that was willingly shared with us. The vibe I got was that they didn't want to tell us this at all, but they had to for the sake of keeping the purchase under a certain dollar figure.

The room got really quiet when we were told that. Everyone there knew what it meant

Now to be honest, nobody said anything about HOW that 200,000 number was going to be reached. I don't know how many people will get layoffs. Certainly some. And it's also certain that there will be normal attrition between now and then. How much? I don't know.

I'm just telling you all what I heard, and that some higher-ups expect the number of employees here to be around 200,000 in the not too distant future.

Are you talking about some type of dog tag? It is no secret. 3 yrs ago they stated 26k layoffs, then covid hit and now they are saying 55k-60k in the news. WF has filed bank closures with the feds. We are valueless human capital.

Love how we are moving to vdi just as our peers abandon vdi. Can’t even benefit from being so slow to skip obvious mistakes here.

Timeline also lines up with the rollout of Microsoft Teams. Maybe the license fees have gone up along with cloud access.

when you look at the all up employee numbers on employee works I mean team works it also includes non US so if you subtract those the delta to 200k isn't that large

Very likely its this:
https://www.smartcardfocus.us/shop/ilp/id~480/contactless-security-smartcard-for-dell-laptops/p/index.shtml

Most companies are already using this for their employees.

To outfit wells fargo entire staff base would cost around $1,000,000 using todays price and staffing levels.

Wells Fargo p!sses more than 10x this amount away on fines for sh!tty business practice annually.

Don't we all already have a personal widget to login? It's called an RSA token....

The idea of plugging in a company-issue USB device to a personal computing device seems like an infosec nightmare or another dystopian Rob Braxman video. So much for the idea of using virtual machines and tunnels to segregate VDI use from other resources on the local computer and network.

Plan A - 20% attrition
Plan B - 20 % attrition
Plan C - 20% attrition.

That is how IB salaries remain high, and hence Ceo

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t California exempt from having employees use personal equipment to access VDI?

thank goodness for the chip shortage. and as for branches not using vdi, they will. they will all get cheap dummy terminals that only access the vdi. the widgets could be some type of usb authentication key. you'll use it to log into vdi from home computer as well as your hotel cube terminal.

In addition to reduced wages, a sh---y work environment, and abysmal "leadership" (if you can even call it that), they want us to use our own computers to do their dirty work. Do we not have enough tech issues in this company to deal with??? Why would they want to introduce more risk with VDI? Don't bother ordering a widget for me!

OP please answer their questions if you can. What was the approximate ORIGINAL number of widgets being ordered before the budget thing became an issue?

not everyone will get a VDI, think of branch employees for example , not all of them will need one

That's the estimated number of employees they've always needed to get to in order to drive down expenses similar to the other large banks. Whether it's end of this year or next year, it's where we're headed.
