@1nyo+1b83xtjt That’s exactly how it is in my WF department. The white male managers have closed door meetings, have lunch and drinks together, and look out for one another. Occasionally they’ll bring in a decorative young, white or Asian female or Asian male, but they are essentially ignored and never promoted.

If there are bigots that refuse to hire the best people, that's on the recruiters that are supposed to be watching over this cr-p and also the hiring managers' boss. It's not an indictment on the idea of hiring the best person, it's an indictment on specific individuals.

There is a problem, but I am confident that Wells Fargo will not come up with a successful solution. All the potential solutions have unintended negative consequences.

As we speak, I work in a department at WFA which is controlled by 7 white male managers. Reporting to these 7 white male managers are women and a few entry level young men. Diverse candidates are hired in at only entry-level jobs and it’s nearly impossible for them to move up out of those entry level jobs. It has been like that FOR YEARS. The men keep tight hold on the information and the meetings, and they hire and promote and support each other. I could go on and on, but that is exactly how it is in my department at WFC in 2021.

Management has a way of protecting and promoting their own. We all watched Charlie do it. The financial industry is still an old boys club. Actually, it is an old white boys club. Yes- I am aware there are female managers, but let’s take a head count.

Having said that, I do know there are plenty of situations where a white person did not get a job because they were not a diverse candidate, and that is not right either.

My point is that I don’t think there is a solution where all parties will be satisfied at all times. But WFC does have to sincerely try to be better. The people who say “just hire the best candidate for the job” don’t understand or want to acknowledge that there is bias in our hiring managers. My white male managers seriously still think women should be taking care of the home and the kids, and are too emotional to be in the workplace. They do not like to listen to or concede to a woman, they say the women who are smarter/stronger than them are bi----s, and they would NEVER choose to work for a woman. Not all men are like that, but many are, whether they’ll admit it or not.

White guy here: I refuse to be apologetic for something I had no part in. If CS has something he needs to be sorry for that’s on him. This horse and pony show is getting old.

In what reality does hiring work as you describe? I'd love to believe it, but people aren't always making decisions on that fact alone.

Unfortunately this cr-p is everywhere.

Agreed. I'm still waiting to hear from the top why we can't just hire the best person for the job, and why, specifically, that won't automatically lead to diverse teams.
